How to Stop Beating Yourself Up and Practice Self-Compassion when Changing Your Drinking
How do you get out of the shame spiral after you drink? How can you stop beating yourself up every time you drink? How can you learn to be more compassionate with yourself? I answer these questions and more in this episode of the podcast. Part of this podcast is from a course I teach called Mindful AF. One component of mindfulness is compassion. A lot of what I talk about is having self-compassion when you're changing your drinking. We cannot hate ourselves to recovery. We can't shame ourselves to recovery. It's only when we start caring for ourselves and have self-compassion when we drink that we can overcome this habit. It's more helpful to be compassionate to ourselves than to beat ourselves up.

The purpose of the inner critic

Loved Alcohol Myths Episode
Start with Deb’s Alcohol Myths episode. Maybe if I heard this before I got sober 9 years ago, I would have been helped and reached.
People Sharing Experiences
Listening to other people’s experiences has been one of the most helpful ways to rethink my drinking habits. I love that this podcast explores the gray area of “maybe too much” and “what might work better.” It was a nice way to start exploring how and why I drink without feeling a stigma attached.
Compelling Episodes
These episodes are so compelling and honest about difficult topics that many people are not willing to talk about - honestly. The host is very thoughtful and inquisitive and gets the best of her guests. I recommend this podcast for anyone who has struggled or knows someone who is struggling who wants to be inspired.
