5 Things I Would Do Differently if I Started BLW All Over Again

#255: I love a good failure reflection and this episode is FULL of it for you. If I were starting baby-led weaning all over again, here are 5 things I would do differently.

In order to bring you this episode, I went BACK into my phone to the very first few weeks of doing BLW with my baby quadruplets and cringed SO HARD at my mistakes.

My focus as a dietitian specializing in baby-led weaning is to help you learn about all of the things your baby CAN eat - but it may also be helpful to know what to avoid, and that’s what I’m covering in this episode.

In this episode you will learn:

Why you should ignore pressure about starting solid foods before your baby is ready How to remedy “dangling feet” and why having baby’s feet resting on a solid footplate is essential for promoting safe swallow The benefits of offering early eaters food out of a suction plate or bowl and not directly on the tray or table How to cycle familiar foods back into your baby’s diet while continuing to offer new foods, flavors, textures and allergenic ingredients.

Sodium Limits for Babies Around the World

Sodium Limits for Babies Around the World

#253: How much salt or sodium is safe for babies to eat? In the United States we do not have clear-cut, evidence-based guidance for upper limits of sodium for infants…but other countries do have some standards for salt. In this episode we’re looking at what other countries’ nutrition and health bodies recommend as far as the amount of salt that babies can or should be eating.

If you’re interested in sodium and feeding babies, another episode I did on this topic that you might want to listen to is: Episode 33 “Salt: 3 Easy Ways To Minimize Sodium For Your Baby”.

Misleading Marketing Claims on Baby Foods with Ada Lizbeth Garcia, PhD

Misleading Marketing Claims on Baby Foods with Ada Lizbeth Garcia, PhD

#250: DYK 72% of packaged baby food snacks in the UK make claims about baby-led weaning? But are packaged baby foods healthier than real foods? Can you believe the health claims on pouches and other processed baby foods? In this episode I’m joined by researcher Ada Lizbeth Garcia, PhD who studies the impact of misleading marketing claims on baby foods in the UK.

Dr. Garcia is a researcher in Scotland who has looked at health claims, marketing claims and nutrient claims on foods that are packaged, processed and sold for babies to consume. In this episode we’re talking about terms you see on baby foods, like “ideal finger foods”, “encourages self feeding”, “perfect for small hands,” “great for your little”, “grab”...why there is no evidence to support these claims and the impact of such statements used in marketing of baby foods, including how this can impact breastfeeding rates and encourage early and unsafe introduction of solid foods in some cases.

Breath of air

I am one month in and I felt like I just couldn’t sift through the TikToks and instagram flashy approaches. I found this as a last respite and now have a 100 foods plan and confidence to keep going. Will be now a listener for these approaching months as I continue to introduce new food
