I'm talking with Milwaukee Poet and interdisciplinary artist, Angela Voras-Hills. She and her co-host Danielle Harms have organized a semi-regular book reading they call Book Drop MKE, inviting local and national authors and poets to read their new collections on a stage for local readers. Held at a nearby brewery, this event invites the audience to interact with authors, and with each other in a much more engaging way than your typical book reading. Icebreakers, raffles, laughter and poetry all on a Friday night.  If you've been looking for a creative way to gather and you're local, make your way to a Book Drop in December (or follow on IG to find their next event). And if you aren't local, Angela and I talk a little about how you might set up a Book Drop in your own community.  Key takeaway for me (again): If you host it, they will come. Earlier this year, Lizzie was angry, overwhelmed, disheartened  and ________ with the state of the world (fill-in-the-blank with any/all the exhausted words). So Lizzie decided to do something. Lizzie boiled a pot of spaghetti noodles, sauced them up and invited friends to her house to share their hopes and fears for our country. And now Lizzie hosts a 'protest potluck' every month for anyone who can show up.   But don't worry - we aren't talking politics in this episode. We're talking about what it takes to organize one of these for yourself - even if, or maybe especially if, it sounds intimidating. Or, if - like my friend Lizzie - you sometimes experience social anxiety and would rather just stay home.  I hope you'll tune in and listen - and maybe even try a potluck of your own making! On today's episode, I'm wondering why we aren't gathering as much these days? I have some ideas, maybe you do too? I also share a simple practice of noticing the ways in which we gather, connect and create on the daily. (and psst: we do it more than we realize, and the simple act of noticing might help us do it even MORE!)  Plus here's a link to Priya Parker's new substack Group Life.  I'm still figuring out the nitty gritty backend of a rebrand - so yes, it still says Cream City Dreams ... but the move is coming. (remember the #1 lesson of Cream City Dreams guests ... start before you're ready.) So that's what I'm doing.  The titles and logistics will catch up - but I couldn't wait to get this out.
