S3 E4 - Dragon Quest Mysteries (Part Three): Questy Boys For Life

In our third (and final, for now) episode on Dragon Quest mysteries, Austin and B.J. explore some lingering fan theories and questions submitted by fans. Want to know why Final Fantasy is more popular than Dragon Quest in the U.S.? Or why some fans think the Luminary from Dragon Quest XI is actually Dragonlord? You can find that all in this episode!

Plus, one of Dragon Quest's biggest urban myths, and a Mandela Effect that seems to be confusing some folks. The Questy Boys are (once again) on the case!

Just what I’ve been hoping for

Having only gotten into the Dragon Quest franchise about 4 years ago I’ve been catching up on what was a huge gaming blind spot for me. I had tried to find a DQ podcast that I could really get into but couldn’t find one that clicked. DQ FM seems to be exactly what I was looking for. Austin and BJ have real chemistry and balance each other out really well. Love hearing every bit of lore and history about the series but one thing that sets them apart in my opinion is the way they often frame discussions about the games around their personal lives. what was going on in their lives when they played a specific game and how that effected their play through. Not over sharing but more just contextualizing the way a game can be partly shaped by your own life. I wish more podcasts were filled with the sincere joy for the topic that this podcast exudes.

I’m still not caught up to current episodes yet but I’ve been binging this podcast and at this point I’m confident in saying I would enjoy hearing these guys discuss almost anything even games I don't necessarily like. I hope they keep this up for a long time to come.
For some reason, the episode where they compared each numbered DQ game to the final fantasy game of the same number and decided which they liked better really stands out as a highlight to me. I could listen to variations of that episode ad Infinitum.
I even joined their Patreon after only listening to about half their available episodes. If you have any interest at all in dragon quest you can’t do much better than this podcast. Highly recommend.
