Too Shy to Order Pizza Turned Confidence Coach with Emily Jaenson

Too Shy to Order Pizza Turned Confidence Coach with Emily Jaenson

Emily Jaenson’s motto is “Be so good they won’t forget you!” and she lives this motto each day in her work as a keynote speaker for companies and employee resource groups across the US teaching them to empower their confidence, achieve their biggest goals, and use their voice to make a difference for themselves and their communities.

Jaenson leads a podcast, Leadership is Female, where she interviews executives so that she and her guests can lead the next generation of leadership forward. The show is in the Top 10% of most followed podcasts worldwide and Top 200 Business podcasts, globally.

Emily’s 2022 TEDx talk on confidence reached over 3 million views in one year. Emily speaks on the topic of confidence, goal setting, and intention to companies and organizations around the world.

Emily Jaenson grew up in northern Illinois and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduating from the College of Media with a degree in Advertising.  To pursue her dream of working in sports, Jaenson turned down an ad agency offer to intern with the Chicago Bulls ticket department where she sold season and group tickets during the 2005-2006 season. 80 calls a day, hitting the phones, to fill the United Center on game day truly taught her that the fans are the lifeblood of any sports organization and sales is the foundation of any business.

Jaenson went on to work for Muscular Dystrophy Association in Chicago leading fundraising and partnership efforts across events, programs, and partnerships. She later ran a small marketing agency. In 2013 the Reno Aces, a Triple-A Minor League baseball team and affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, came calling where Jaenson grew from sponsorship account executive to Vice President in two years.

In 2016 Jaenson left Reno with her family for Houston where she had a chance to volunteer for Super Bowl 51, worked as Sales Director on the World Corporate Games Houston and the inaugural Houston Sports Awards Show, and worked for Houston Methodist, the number one hospital in Texas, to manage business development through their sports partnerships.

Emily returned to the Reno Aces to serve as General Manager in 2018-2022. Jaenson became the first female general manage in Triple-A Baseball in nearly 20 years.

Above all, Emily is a devoted wife and adoring mother. She is an avid runner, wholeheartedly passionate about leadership, instilling confidence, and relentlessly seeking thrilling adventures.

You Can Change the People Around You

You Can Change the People Around You

You can't change the people around you, but you can change the people around you. Read that again!

It's important to keep in mind that you can't change people's behaviors or actions. You can only change your own. But you can change the people in your community. You're only as good as the company you keep.

Narcissists will often discard people that they can't control or are no longer giving them the supply they want. The motivation behind this is different than a healthy person -- it's usually to find peace or to protect yourself when making a decision to no longer engage with someone that is bringing toxicity to your life.

If you are working to remove narcissists or other dangerous personalities from your life, you may want to consider utilizing the grey rock method. Tune into Season 1, Episode 18 for more on this.

When you change, grow and evolve, sometimes the people around you are uncomfortable with your growth as it highlights that they may not be growing. They may be used to an older version of you and might not like this.

When you remove negative and toxic energy from your life, it creates space to invest in the healthy and meaningful relationships in your life to flourish. These relationships become deeper and you also naturally welcome into your life more warm, loving & authentic people into your community as well.

You can always come back to paying attention to your emotional bank account and notice how interactions leave you feeling.

Relatable and inspiring

I started listening to Ginny’s podcast after reading her book, You’re my Favorite. I found the book to be honest and vulnerable and her podcast has the same feel. I think there are so many things that people are afraid to express for fear of shame (especially guys). Ginny lays it all out there and is not afraid to make herself vulnerable, sharing her life experiences - the good, bad and the ugly. She does this in a relatable way and has a natural gift for expressing herself in this format. Men in particular I think can learn from her message of sharing in each others joys and traumas alike, to help each other fulfill our common needs and goals.

Powerful Guests

I dove in on the recent episode with Cat Kozuch. To call her story both harrowing and inspirational is an understatement. I so enjoyed hearing her break down her thought process about recovery and suffering. Never, had I heard a justification for good people suffering being to inspire others when those same people fight to recover. Very thought-provoking. I’ll be listening again, and often.
