DBR Bites #163 - CFos Returns!

Caleb Foster returns! The Duke point guard has announced that he will return for his senior season, and we hop on very quickly on DBR Bites #163 to discuss it! Pressure? What pressure? Competition? The Duke Blue Devils have reeled in what may be the most significant transfer in the program's history. John Blackwell, who was widely seen as the best scoring guard in the transfer portal has committed to Jon Scheyer, locking in a crucial piece of Duke's 26-27 team. Duke Basketball Roundup co-hosts Jason Evans and Donald Wine have a complete breakdown of his game and what his presence in Durham will mean for Duke. He’s back! Patrick Ngongba II has announced that he’s returning to Duke for his junior year, and we cannot be more excited on DBR Bites #162. Pat’s return will have some expectations attached to it as he seeks to be one of the best centers in the country next season. Jason and Donald are excited about the possibilities as they discuss some of what might have led to his decision to stay in school and not test the NBA Draft waters. We also give our takes on what we can see from an improved Pat next season as he becomes one of the main centerpieces on offense and defense. We also dive quickly into some of the portal possibilities remaining for Duke as John Blackwell visits campus and we discuss a couple of the other forwards that Duke is considering. DBR Bites #160: No News Means…No News?

We haven’t heard a lot of news on the status of the Duke Men’s Basketball roster for next season…and we know everyone trying to figure out what it all means! We update everyone on what we’ve heard and speculate on the portal on DBR Bites #160. After Nik Khamenia and Darren Harris entered the transfer portal, the news cycle has gone quiet. Sure, Duke has been rumored to be considering several players from the portal, but no one on the squad has made any decisions public yet. We start by going through the roster and giving what we think is the status of those players who may have decisions to make, whether it’s to stay at Duke, enter the NBA Draft, or to transfer. Some guys are likely very torn on their decision, but we also try to reassure folks who might be getting antsy that no news means bad news for next year’s roster. We also dive into some of the players that we are reportedly considering in the transfer portal and discuss the news that Flory Bidunga has committed to Louisville just hours before he was scheduled to visit Duke. Jason and Donald say they could see glimpses of what Nik could become during his freshman campaign and they are bummed that we won't get to watch that at Duke, but they also understand why Nik made this decision. #816 - Stats Game Results Show

While the end of the Duke basketball season is always a terribly sad time, it at least allowed the Duke Basketball Roundup to bring our old friend Sam Klein back on the show for the season recap via the Stats Game. Every year, the DBR Podcast team all guess at various statistical measures of success in the preseason and then, when all is said and done, we look back on it to see how foolish (and how insightful) we all were. Even though the season ended short of the promised land, the Stats Game is always a fun way to wrap up the season. And it is even more challenging now that we have added Scott Rich to the mix as one more stat picker. Jason has a 6-4 lead on Donald (Sam has only won once) in the history of the game. I thought I enjoyed Scott Rich as a new participant. But now you can toss him. I hope Jason comes back at him for his defense of Nik. Scott has no comprehension of the animus toward UConn in the fan base. He is oblivious to the history—of talks as if he is. He may have high IQ but he is in the bottom 5% on EQ! Just an idiot! He can take his advice about this is the way it will be in the NIL era and we should wish Nik well and sell it on another podcast. We don’t need him or Nik anymore—unless Scott repents of his idiocy.
