If you’re still reeling from the toxic diet culture of the early 2000s (justice for Jessica Simpson) and constantly quoting your therapist, then Emily Lubin and Lauren Hope Krass are here to help you laugh (so you don’t cry). Diets can’t sit with us anymore but there’s a place at the table for body neutrality, body positivity, intuitive eating, and hot takes about which non-dairy creamer pairs best with our sharp cheddar cheese omelettes. Can Shame Actually Be Motivational?

    Can Shame Actually Be Motivational?

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren review a viral TikTok that a concerned listener sent into the show involving damaging, shameful & fatphobic language as a form of motivation when it comes to working out. There’s an audience for this but why is it just now becoming openly popular? Is divisiveness as an engagement tool detrimental to our mental health? Lol probably! The two review the history and appeal of shame as a motivator along with some research on the subject. Finally, they both share personal anecdotes on the topic of shame and motivation and yes, they both have fridge photo stories. Alright, time for some much needed mirror mantras. See you next week, you beautiful Betches!

    Body Dysmorphia After Weight Loss

    Body Dysmorphia After Weight Loss

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily shares with Lauren all about the societal after effects of a major weight loss as well as the internalized struggle which can accompany such a change. Then, they welcome on former curve model and entrepreneur, Lexi Stout who tells us all about her own major weight loss and the dysmorphia and distrust of others that tends to be an after effect. Then, Lexi tells us a bit about the grief she’s experienced from the loss of both her parents and the odd “up-side” of loss as an adult. We’re all on different journeys and we are thankful to Lexi for sharing hers with us.

    Hairy Girl Summer

    Hairy Girl Summer

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren are talking about The Cut’s recent article “It’s Going To Be A Hairy Summer.” Is the bush back? Did she go anywhere to begin with? They chat downstairs routines and the etymology of the concept just in general. Are we shaving our nether regions because we actually want to or for the pleasure of some sort of external gaze? Then, they hear from a listener who is struggling with how to shut down negative body talk with a plus size friend who keeps saying she “looks so huge”. This can be a sticky situation especially when you’re different sizes; you don’t want to necessarily lie about someone’s size but you also don’t want to co-sign negative self-talk.. So what should she do? Tune in!

    Thick Girl Summer Survival Guide

    Thick Girl Summer Survival Guide

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren are talking about the current heat dome in NYC. Emily is more team beach while Lauren is vehemently anti-beach and pro-pool. Lauren also drops a piping hot take re: dating in higher temps. This leads into an informative and revealing discussion about ways to optimize comfort in the summertime. We’re talking chub rub, little red bumps, odor, makeup melting, old lady sandals, all of it! Don’t let the title fool you; still plenty to take from this episode for our straight size listeners! Stay cool out there.

Body Diversity In Television: The Needle Is Moving But There’s Still A Long Way To Go

Body Diversity In Television: The Needle Is Moving But There’s Still A Long Way To Go

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren rave over Nicola Coughlan’s recent reply to a reporter about her so-called bravery with baring her body on screen. She said “It is hard ’cause I think women with my body type, women with perfect breasts—we do not see ourselves onscreen enough.” Go off, Nicola!! This leads into a conversation about the need for more body diversity in TV and Film. Lauren tells us about her foray into TV Writing where she was trying to do just that with her original pilot “Fat With Standards.” Is “fat funny best friend” the best plus size actors can hope for amongst the other choices of villain, parent, grandparent, creep, joke or sad person on diet? We don’t think so!

Love, love, love Lauren & Emily!

I don’t really know where to begin. I started listening a little over a year ago and immediately felt like these lovely humans are able to articulate a lot of the feelings I have had over my life about my body issues, my disordered eating, and just my lack of confidence overall. I loved Remy and hope she comes back for some guest spots, but when Lauren joined she shared things that I have never had to the ability to say to myself or to those who love me. I love this show because they are super thoughtful and insightful and have really helped me to start to explore so much of the sadness and anxiety that has been attached to my relationship with my body, movement, food, and so much more. Thank you Lauren and Emily for hosting such a thought provoking podcast!

No longer for me

I’ve been a DST listener since the beginning but over time the content has shifted and no longer resonates with me. I miss the days of Sami and Aleen. Just not for me anymore!

Loved Emily & Remi…now it’s not for me

I started listening to DST a few months ago. I wasn’t crazy about it but when I went back to older episodes with Emily and Remi I really loved them. Lauren means well but she says nothing of substance, and they’ve completely lost any credibility with regards to the science around weight and the consequences of being obese.
