    #434 Polaris 36 Recap and UFC BJJ 6 Preview

    This week on the show Maine and Josh recap Polaris 36 and preview UFC BJJ 6.  In the recap section of the show we break down the entire Maine card and every title fight on Polaris 36.  We kick off the recap discussing Ethan Crelinsten vs Shai Gerena we talked about Shai pathway to this title fight and career directory as well as Ethan's rear, naked, choke victory in round one to retain his title and UFC call out in his post fight interview.  In a recap of Kendall Reusing vs Anabel Lopez we talked about Kendall returning to competition after a number of years away from submission grappling competition and then her fantastic top pressure performance and Armbar submission win to retain the Polaris Openweight Title.  In Owen Jones vs Gianni Grippo we discussed the pacing that Owen implemented in the first two rounds and his fantastic Armbar attempt in the second round then we discussed Gianni turn around in the third round with Owen and taking the  Unanimous Decision in win the vacant Polaris Featherweight Title. Then we discussed great interest in his call out of Keith Krikorian for his first title defense.  In PJ Barch vs Shane Fishman we discussed Barch moving up in weight for this match up and then his Unanimous Decision victory.  We also briefly discussed Ross Nicholls vs Sam Gibson where Ross took a Unanimous Decision win.  As well as Sarah Galvao vs Elizabeth Genge with galvao winning via Triangle Kimura. In our preview of the UFC BJJ 6 we ran through the entire card and made picks for each match up discussing the main event Main Event for the UFC BJJ Light Heavyweight Title with Mason Fowler vs Pedro Machado, we talked about some of the oddness of the booking and pathways that Fowler would most likely be able to implement in the bowl. In our recap of the Co-Main Event for the UFC BJJ Women’s Bantamweight Title we previewed Ffion Davies vs Cassia Moura, in a truly generational matchup we discussed the passing credentials of Ffion versus the incredible level of activity that Cassia has had in recent matches. We discussed the rematch four years in the making between Nick Rodriguez vs Elder Cruz. We talked about the pacing of the first match of potentially the new tools that Nick Rodriguez has brought into his skill set since 2022. We also previewed Marcos Mendes vs Meyram Maquine, Jasmin Rocha vs Ana Rodrigues, Lucas Norat vs Devhonte Johnson. Plus we discussed João Miyao vs Jussier "Formiga" Da Silva with Miyao making his anticipated UFC BJJ debutl; and Caio Vinivius Santos vs Manuel Ribamar opening the card. Recorded 3-8-2026

    #433 The Controversy at the 2026 IBJJF NoGi GP

    This week on the show, Maine and Miranda break down the 2026 IBJJF NoGi Grand Prix. Plus preview Polaris 36. In the news section of the show, we discussed the recent news that athletes in the UFC BJJ will not be allowed to compete in ADCC in 2027. We also discussed them with a recent news across the sport.  In the recap section of the show, we breakdown all of the super fights and every single match in the men's NoGi Grand Prix.  We breakdown Quarter-Finals starting with Victor Hugo vs Marlon Tajik, then Javier Barter vs Nick Hartman with an impressive Rear Naked Choke from Barter. We move into Pedro Marinho vs Diego Pato where Pedros early 2 points take him the match. In the last quarterfinals matchup we discussed Gustavo Batista vs Michael Pixley and Pixleys inactivity in passing range.  In the Semi-Finals we discussed Victor Hugo vs Javier Barter that saw Victor able to get the rear naked choke quickly. We also talked about Pedro Marinho vs Gustavo Batista I saw another quick finish in the quarterfinals for Pedro via Inside heel hook  In the finals we broke down the strategy in Victor Hugo vs Pedro Marinho and talk about the potential momentary lapse of judgment from Pedro that led to a 15×2 points victory for Victor Hugo. In a recap of the super fights, we discussed the big black belt, super fights on the card.  We briefly discussed the results of this weekend's Grapplefest.  In the preview section of the show we run down the main card for Polaris 36.     #432 Why Victor Hugo Returned to IBJJF No-Gi GP 2026 Preview

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda preview the 2026 IBJJF No-Gi GP we break down all of the big black belt, super fights, and every single athlete in the Grand Prix.  In the preview section of the show, we discussed every single first round matchup in the IBJJF absolute No-Gi GP. We kick it off discussing the quarterfinal matchups that kickoff the event with the top seed Victor Hugo vs Marlon Tajik, we discussed the recent performances that we've seen from both athletes and how Marlons most recent ADCC European trials performance and brand new black belt will affect him going into this matchup against potential number one seed Victor Hugo. On the same side of the bracket we discussed Javier Barter vs Nick Hartman, with Hartman, coming off of an impressive ADCC trials performance of his own we talk about his guard work and how it may play a factor versus the Panamanian in Barter. In Pedro Marinho vs Diego Pato we discussed the stylistic matchup with Diego being by far the smallest competitor in the entire tournament. We discuss how Pedro will most likely play the Ranger game and leverage his wrestling and guillotine game versus the quick speed and leg locks of Pato.  In the final quarterfinals matchup we discussed Michael Pixley vs Gustavo Batista, we talked about the guard work from Gustavo and how it may potentially play an issue with Pixley's passing game we also discussed some potential strategic avenues for Pixley and Gustavo to potentially leverage the IBJJF points in order to come out on top. We also preview the second round and potential finals matchups on each side of the bracket, discussing Victor Hugo's potential pathway to victory as the number one seed in the event.  We preview the black belt, super fights on the card as well. With Cole Abate vs Will Wilson a rematch from an earlier event with both coming off of very strong performances at the Europeans will taking the lightweight division and Cole taking silver against Kennedy in the division below. We discussed Helena Crevar vs Aghata Rabelo another rematch that took place in the Gi at the colored belts we discuss Helena's argument for the slot as the number one No-Gi woman in the world. We briefly discuss Sarah Galvão vs Maria Vicentini, and how the recent Atos situation may play into the preparation that Sarah is able to do in the lead up to this match.  We also discuss Leo Souza vs Mateo Cardona and Ashlee Funegra vs Yasmyn Castro. In the outro of the show, we discuss recent travel and the upcoming promotion for Corey of the Grappling Rewind later that night.   Recorded 2-23-2026

    #431 UFC BJJ 5 and ADCC European and African Trials 2026

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda recap the UFC BJJ 5 and ADCC European and African Trials 2026.  We kick off the show talking about Gordon Ryans official retirement. After that we move into the recap section of the show talking about UFC BJJ 5 headlined by Mikey Musumeci vs Shay Montague for the Bantamweight title. We talked about Shay tearing something in his upper leg and announcing it to his corner at the end of the first round, then we discussed the passing from Mikey in the second round and the heel hook submission that allowed Mikey to retain his title.  In the middleweight title match, we talked about Ronaldo Souza Junior vs Tarik Hopstock with Ronaldo, retaining his title through top pressure.  In Nicholas Meregali vs Nicholas Maglicic we talked about Meregali returning to competition after 17-months off due to injury  and how we were able to see flashes of the old game while seemingly dealing with some rust. We also discussed that this was most likely. Meregali first match with a three round timer and likely his first match in a pit or bowl. In Andy Murasaki vs Andy Varela we talked about Varela's slower pace, and how potentially this has changed in his recent matches and then we discussed the fantastic armbar from guard from Murasaki.  In Landon Elmore vs Rerisson Gabriel we discussed the early leg locks and how Gabriel was able to defend them; then in the following two rounds was able to impose a top pressure game with a guillotine counter in the third to take the match via decision. In Taylor Hishaw vs Rebeca Lima Mona we talked about the Estima lock finish from Lima. In Jalen Fonacier vs Carlos Oliveira we discussed Jalen hitting the fastest sub in UFC BJJ history with a 16 second heel hook. We also discussed potentially where he goes from here if he is unwilling to face Mikey, and if he will have to go up in weight. In our recap of the ADCC European and African Trials for 2026 the second regional trials for the 2026 world championship season. We recapped every single finals match across all of the division divisions, including the women's finals matches that qualify them for the world championships as this is the second trials for that region. We kick it off discussing the +99 kg division final between Aiden Woodley vs Haisam Rida where we saw a Hari Goshi from Rida to Rear naked choke.  In -99 kg we recap Mohamed Urusov vs Eoghan O'Flannagan discussing the finishing sequence where Owen was able to get to single leg and immediately throw for a heel hook knee bar combination to get the submission win in the finals. In -88 kg in Faris Ben-Lamkadem vs Marlon Tajik we talked about the back-and-forth takedowns in the match and some of the more interesting resets, as well as the scoring particularities that came with the match when it comes to decision. With the decision going to Marlon.  In -77 kg Taylor Pearman vs Nicolay Vetrov we discussed the negative one that Taylor received for pulling guard in the finals and how Nicolay was able to play a solid game and prevent any points from being scored in order to take the victory.  In -66 kg Yigit Hanay vs Kostiantyn Zhyvanov we discussed the pacing of the match with Yigit scoring late in order to punch his ticket to the world championships.  In the Womens finals, at -55 kg Ana Moyordomo vs Janette Gloger we talked about the clean back take that Janett was able to hit to the rear naked choke to take the win.  In 65 kg Injana Goodman vs Ane Svendsen we talked about the prolonged sequences of back control from Goodman that allowed her to outscore and threatened the rear naked choke the entire match to get the win on points.  In +65KG Nia Blackman vs Anabel Lopez we talked about the level of activity and the guard work with Annabelle Lopez taking the win on activity.  Recorded 2-16-2026

    #430 UFC BJJ 5 Preview Can Anyone Beat Mikey? Mikey Musumeci vs Shay Montague

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda preview, the UFCBJJ5 headline by Mikey Musumeci vs Shay Montague for the Bantamweight title.  We preview the main event talking about some of Mikey's past opponents and talking about the recent accolades from Shay we discussed some of the dynamics of the match, including the leg lock avenues that both men are well known for finishing fights with as well as some of the interesting positional work that may take place due to both grappler being so strong from bottom position and top position.  In the co main event we discussed the middleweight title between Ronaldo Souza Junior vs Tarik Hopstock talking about some of the stylistic pairings and the submission hunting style from Hopstock against the top pressure and the headhunting of Ronaldo.   Later in the card we discussed Andy Murasaki vs Andy Varela discussing some possible Camp changes for Murisaki and how this potentially may factor into this matchup we talked about some of the stylist tendencies that Varella typically operates with and how this may or may not be a factor against Murisaki.  In Landon Elmore vs Rerisson Gabriel we discussed the ever present danger of the foot lock from Landon and potentially where this puts both men in the title picture in the featherweight division.  In Taylor Hishaw vs Rebeca Lima Mona we talked about the activity of Taylor and her wrestling against the training and accolades of Lima.  In Mona Bailey vs Carol Brunacio we talked about how excited we were to see Mona competing on a super fight at the black belt level. In Jalen Fonacier vs Carlos Oliveira we discussed this interesting matchup with Carlos being brought into the UFC BJJ roster against the exciting style of Jalen.  Recorded 2-9-2026
