    #423 The Youth Takeover IBJJF NoGI Worlds 2025 Full Black Belt Recap

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda recap the 2025 IBJJF NoGi Worlds. We recap the Black Belt finals and open class for each division.  In the recap section of the show, we kick it off breaking down the massive upset in the female open class final between Elisabeth Clay vs Gabrieli Pessanha, discussing Clay's aggressive pull to the 50/50 position, her refusal to stall, and the inside heel hook finish that ended Pessanha's unbeaten streak.  In the Female Roosterweight final between Thais Loureiro vs Faye Cherrier we with Loureiro using her experience to secure the points victory. In the Female Light-Featherweight final between Ashlee Funegra vs Anne Druckrey we talked about Funegra's impassable guard, her flexibility, and her dominant 11-2 points win to claim the title. In the Female Featherweight final between Adele Fornarino vs Ana Mayordomo we discussed the viral sixteen-second finish and Fornarino's immediate entry into the legs to get the sub. In the Female Lightweight final between Lillian Marchand vs Amanda Bruse we talked about Marchand's rear naked choke finish. In the Female Middleweight final between Elisabeth Clay vs Rebeca Lima we discussed Clay's submission run through the division and open class and the quick outside heel hook finish. In the Female Medium-Heavyweight final between Helena Crevar vs Ane Svendsen we talked about the teenage phenom's 100% submission rate and her clinic of a performance ending in a rear naked choke. In the Female Heavyweight final between Cassia Moura vs Nia Blackman we discussed Moura's use of wrestling to control the match and win via points. In the Female Super Heavyweight final between Gabrieli Pessanha vs Lauren Rojas we talked about Pessanha's 19-0 and some control concerns we have for her in NoGi.  In the Male Roosterweight final between Shay Montague vs Lucas Castro we discussed Montague late triangle choke win from the re-guard.  In the Male Light-Featherweight final between Marcos Gomes vs Kleber Barboza we talked about the 50/50 entry inside heel hook finish that ended the match. In the Male Featherweight final between Marco Mendes vs Gianni Grippo we discussed the tactical points battle from Marco and the submission hunting Gianni did throughout the match and Mendes' decisive late sweep to secure the 8-6 points victory. In the Male Lightweight final between Cole Abate vs Julian Espinosa we talked about Abate's dominant passing game, his submission threats, and the 14-0 shutout to win his second title. In the Male Middleweight final between Tarik Hopstock vs Marcelo Fausto we discussed Hopstock's creative open guard, his use of submission threats, and his ability to outscore Fausto. In the Male Medium-Heavyweight final between Pawel Jaworski vs Gabriel Brod we talked about the shocking twenty-second match and Jaworski's immediate backsize 50/50 inversion to a heel hook finish. In the Male Heavyweight final between Javier Barter vs Faris Benlamkadem we discussed Barter's fast start leading to a quick back take and rear naked choke. In the Male Super Heavyweight final between Nicholas Maglicic vs Austin Morris we talked about Maglicic's imposing top game and his 17-2 points victory. In the Male Ultra Heavyweight final between Roosevelt Sousa vs Heikki Jussila we discussed Sousa's agility and octopus guard to take the back from a sweep and finish with a rear naked choke. In the Male Open Class final between Roosevelt Sousa vs Elder Cruz we talked about Elders pacing and Sousas transition to the back from the wrestle-up, and the rear naked choke finish to secure double gold.     #422 Has UFC Surpassed IBJJF? UFC BJJ 4 Recap

    On this weeks show Maine and Corey recap UFC BJJ 4.  In the recap section of the show, we kick it off breaking down the main event welterweight title match between Andrew Tackett vs Elijah Dorsey, discussing the early leg lock exchange, Tackett's decision to engage in the 50/50 position, and his inside heel hook finish in the first round.  In the middleweight title match between William Tackett vs Ronaldo Junior we discussed Ronaldo's game plan to slow the pace and neutralize scrambles, his ability to mount Tackett multiple times, and his dominant unanimous decision win.  In the women's featherweight title match between Raquel Canuto vs Aurelie Le Vern we talked about Le Vern's early takedown, the transition to the inverted triangle setup, and the kimura finish in the first round. We also recapped the rest of the card including Mayssa Bastos vs Amanda Alequin, discussing Bastos's ability to retain guard against Alequin's pressure passing to secure the decision.  In Renato Canuto vs Alan Sanchez we talked about Canuto's high-amplitude movement and flying entries against Sanchez's defensive shell.  In Dorian Olivarez vs Samuel Nagai we discussed Nagai's strong start in the first round, followed by Olivarez taking over with wrestling and cardio in rounds two and three.  We also discussed Andy Varela vs Robby Malof, covering Varela's positional dominance, and odd strategy in the match, and the third-round heel hook finish.  In Bella Mir vs Rana Willink we talked about Mir's heavy top pressure and takedowns against Willink's active guard and late submission threats.  In Landon Elmore vs Nate Hernandez we discussed Elmore's opening flying triangle attempt and the quick transition to the match-ending footlock.  We also recapped Jussier Formiga vs Lucas Pinheiro, discussing Formiga's use of defensive wrestling and top pressure to shut down Pinheiro's modern guard game.     #421 Did Luke Hold the Choke Too Long On Pena WNO 31 Recap + ADCC Asian Trials 2025

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda recap WNO 31, ADCC Asian and Oceanic Trials 2025, and One Championship Marcello Garcia Vs Lachlan Giles.  In the recap section of the shell, we kick it off breaking down the One Championship matchups between Marcello Garcia and Lachlan Giles talking about Lachlan leg and K guard entries and how he was able to submit Marcello with a kneebar.  We also recapped the Flyweight title between Diogo Reis vs. Daiki Yonekura, that saw Diogo win on passing attempts and sub agression. In the next section of the recap segment we talk about WNO 31 discussing the main event super fight for the heavyweight title between Felipe Pena vs. Luke Griffith we talk about the back take and and rear naked choke finish, then get into if the choke was held too long. In the featherweight title match between Helena Crevar and Julia Boscher, we discussed the lock lock entries and defense from Julia and the Aoki lock finish from Crevar. In Gabi Pessanha vs. Paige Clymer we discussed Gabi making her super fight NoGI debut we discussed some of her questionable footlock entries and how she was able to implement her game against Paige in the decision win.  In Xande Ribeiro vs. Faris Ben-Lamkadem we discussed some of Xande pacing and entry issues and how the overall top position counter game from Faris allowed him to take the match on position and passing attempts. In Felipe Costa vs. Abraham La Montagne we discussed the interesting scoring parallels between big moments of positional dominace vs sustained activity and pressure passing attempts. We also discussed the ending secuence that saw Felipe win via armbar.  In the second half the recap section we discussed ADCC Asian and Oceanic Trials, we talked about of the mens finals notably Kenta Iwamoto vs.Izaak Michell at -77 kg and Jozef Chen vs.James Watson at -88kg plus the others. In the women's finals we talk about the only final with video footage.  In the preview section of the show we talk about the matchups on UFC BJJ 4. Main Event for the 170 title Andrew Tackett vs Elijah Dorsey, the 185 pound title between William Tackett vs Ronaldo Junior, the 145 pound women's title between Raquel Canuto vs Aurelie Le Vern. Plus the rest of the stacked card featuring Mayssa Bastos vs Amanda Alequin, Renato Canuto vs Alan Sanchez, Samuel Nagai vs Dorian Olivarez, Andy Varela vs Robby Malof, Bella Mir vs Rana Willink, Landon Elmore vs Nate Hernandez, and Lucas Pinheiro vs Jussier Formiga.     #420 WNO 31 Night Of Champions Preview

    This week, Maine and Miranda preview the upcoming WNO 31 night of champions we discussed all of the matchups on the main card and breakdown our picks for who will win and retain the titles at Who is Number One. We kick off the show discussing the main event Felipe Pena vs. Luke Griffith we talk about their first two matchups where Pena has been able to submit Luke every time. We talked about their first match up at ADCC 2024 and then again in CJI 2 we talk about some of the stylistic approaches that Luke may take in this trilogy matchup and how his camp is one of the best in the world to deal with Felipe specifically. We also discuss Pena's game and how it has been effective every single time that you have matched up.  In the main event, we discussed the matchup between Diego "Pato" Oliveira vs Deandre Corbe. We discussed their most recent matchup that was a somewhat controversial win for Deandre at Sapatero via a judges decision, we discussed some of the strategies in the matches, and how potentially a fired up Pato could potentially put up a pace that alone allows him to win a judges decision in the WNO format.  In the featherweight title match between Helena Crevar and Julia Boscher, we discussed the recent outstanding run that Helena has been on winning both the women's division at CJI2, and staking her claim as one of the best women in the world we discussed the difference in ranking leading up to this match, and the activity that will be needed from Julia to win.  In Gabi Pessanha vs. Paige Clymer we discussed Gabi making her super fight NoGI debut we discussed some of her Footlock winds that she has taken recently on the IBJJF circuit and some of the tactical tendencies that she has that may lead to her potentially being able to be countered by Paige. We discussed some stylistically changes in. Paige passing, that may potentially work in her favor. We talked about the pathway that Gabi has to victory with heavy top pressure and being able to consistently force into back control to look for the sub. In Xande Ribeiro vs. Faris Ben-Lamkadem we discussed some of Xande recent performances, and how this match up is a late replacement matchup with one of the top grappler on the IBJJF circuit out of Europe.  In Felipe Costa vs. Abraham La Montagne we discussed the danger of the Abe lock and potentially the camp that Felipe comes from in order to be able to deal with that technique we discussed the quick outside, passing from Felipe in potentially activity that would allow him to be the favor in this matchup. In the second half the preview section we discussed ADCC Asian and Oceanic Trials, we talked about the size of the divisions and some of the notable competitors at the event.     #419 IBJJF Crown Recap BJJ Stars 18 Recap

    This week, me and Miranda recap the 2025 IBJJF Crown featuring six different divisions, two women's divisions, and four men's divisions. We also recap the Maine card for BJJ Stars 18. In the recap section of the show we kicked off with BJJ Stars 18 taking a look at the main card. We discuss Pedro Marinho taking a decision over Roosevelt Sousa via his usual methods and distance management.  We discussed the interesting and lengthy position arguments that took place in Vagner Rocha vs Sergio Moraes which ended in a victory via penalties for Vagner.  In Fabricio Andrey Vs Oliver Taza we discussed the interesting back-and-forth and how you can potentially interpret and judge matches based on athlete, intent. In Meyram Maquine vs Owen Jones we discussed the submission strategy for Owen versus the passing point strategy for. Meyram that saw Meyram win on points In Yatan Bueno vs Big Dan we discussed that this is the first time we have seen big Dan since his injury and this may have player factor in his pacing and strategy leading to Bueno winning on points. Any recap of the 2025 IBJJJF Crown we talk about all of the finals matches in all six divisions.  Kicking it off with Cole Abate vs João Mendes where Abate took it via sweeps on points.  In Andy Murasaki vs Jackson Nagai we discussed how this is potentially one of the more interesting Gi matches of the year and Andy strategy starting from the bottom working for the suite then resetting to pole guard again and resweep to take the win by points. In Nolan Stuart vs Adam Wardzinski we discussed Adams return from retirement and his fantastic X-Guard sweep, followed by some midrange guard work that Nolan was able to capitalize on shooting in early Omaplata that Adam defended per minute before no one was able to keep the control and make the final adjustments to get the finish. In Erich Munis vs Gustavo Batista we discussed the game from Erich and how it is so hard to deal with leading to a point win for Munis. In the women's division, we check it off discussing Sarah Galvão vs Janaina Lebre we discussed the fantastic opening sequence with the flash cast off of the guard pole from Lebre that led to one advantage for Sarah after that, we discussed some of the guard work, but that the one advantage would be all that it took for Sarah to the crown.  In Gabi Pessanha vs Tayane Porfirio we discussed with essentially the exact same match that they have had prior with Gabi being able to counter the double under pass from Tayane and throwing points, getting to the top, forcing the turtle and working for the choke during sections of the match.  In the author, discussed the upcoming Thanksgiving plans.
