    #431 UFC BJJ 5 and ADCC European and African Trials 2026

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda recap the UFC BJJ 5 and ADCC European and African Trials 2026.  We kick off the show talking about Gordon Ryans official retirement. After that we move into the recap section of the show talking about UFC BJJ 5 headlined by Mikey Musumeci vs Shay Montague for the Bantamweight title. We talked about Shay tearing something in his upper leg and announcing it to his corner at the end of the first round, then we discussed the passing from Mikey in the second round and the heel hook submission that allowed Mikey to retain his title.  In the middleweight title match, we talked about Ronaldo Souza Junior vs Tarik Hopstock with Ronaldo, retaining his title through top pressure.  In Nicholas Meregali vs Nicholas Maglicic we talked about Meregali returning to competition after 17-months off due to injury  and how we were able to see flashes of the old game while seemingly dealing with some rust. We also discussed that this was most likely. Meregali first match with a three round timer and likely his first match in a pit or bowl. In Andy Murasaki vs Andy Varela we talked about Varela's slower pace, and how potentially this has changed in his recent matches and then we discussed the fantastic armbar from guard from Murasaki.  In Landon Elmore vs Rerisson Gabriel we discussed the early leg locks and how Gabriel was able to defend them; then in the following two rounds was able to impose a top pressure game with a guillotine counter in the third to take the match via decision. In Taylor Hishaw vs Rebeca Lima Mona we talked about the Estima lock finish from Lima. In Jalen Fonacier vs Carlos Oliveira we discussed Jalen hitting the fastest sub in UFC BJJ history with a 16 second heel hook. We also discussed potentially where he goes from here if he is unwilling to face Mikey, and if he will have to go up in weight. In our recap of the ADCC European and African Trials for 2026 the second regional trials for the 2026 world championship season. We recapped every single finals match across all of the division divisions, including the women's finals matches that qualify them for the world championships as this is the second trials for that region. We kick it off discussing the +99 kg division final between Aiden Woodley vs Haisam Rida where we saw a Hari Goshi from Rida to Rear naked choke.  In -99 kg we recap Mohamed Urusov vs Eoghan O'Flannagan discussing the finishing sequence where Owen was able to get to single leg and immediately throw for a heel hook knee bar combination to get the submission win in the finals. In -88 kg in Faris Ben-Lamkadem vs Marlon Tajik we talked about the back-and-forth takedowns in the match and some of the more interesting resets, as well as the scoring particularities that came with the match when it comes to decision. With the decision going to Marlon.  In -77 kg Taylor Pearman vs Nicolay Vetrov we discussed the negative one that Taylor received for pulling guard in the finals and how Nicolay was able to play a solid game and prevent any points from being scored in order to take the victory.  In -66 kg Yigit Hanay vs Kostiantyn Zhyvanov we discussed the pacing of the match with Yigit scoring late in order to punch his ticket to the world championships.  In the Womens finals, at -55 kg Ana Moyordomo vs Janette Gloger we talked about the clean back take that Janett was able to hit to the rear naked choke to take the win.  In 65 kg Injana Goodman vs Ane Svendsen we talked about the prolonged sequences of back control from Goodman that allowed her to outscore and threatened the rear naked choke the entire match to get the win on points.  In +65KG Nia Blackman vs Anabel Lopez we talked about the level of activity and the guard work with Annabelle Lopez taking the win on activity.  Recorded 2-16-2026

    #430 UFC BJJ 5 Preview Can Anyone Beat Mikey? Mikey Musumeci vs Shay Montague

    This week on the show Maine and Miranda preview, the UFCBJJ5 headline by Mikey Musumeci vs Shay Montague for the Bantamweight title.  We preview the main event talking about some of Mikey's past opponents and talking about the recent accolades from Shay we discussed some of the dynamics of the match, including the leg lock avenues that both men are well known for finishing fights with as well as some of the interesting positional work that may take place due to both grappler being so strong from bottom position and top position.  In the co main event we discussed the middleweight title between Ronaldo Souza Junior vs Tarik Hopstock talking about some of the stylistic pairings and the submission hunting style from Hopstock against the top pressure and the headhunting of Ronaldo.   Later in the card we discussed Andy Murasaki vs Andy Varela discussing some possible Camp changes for Murisaki and how this potentially may factor into this matchup we talked about some of the stylist tendencies that Varella typically operates with and how this may or may not be a factor against Murisaki.  In Landon Elmore vs Rerisson Gabriel we discussed the ever present danger of the foot lock from Landon and potentially where this puts both men in the title picture in the featherweight division.  In Taylor Hishaw vs Rebeca Lima Mona we talked about the activity of Taylor and her wrestling against the training and accolades of Lima.  In Mona Bailey vs Carol Brunacio we talked about how excited we were to see Mona competing on a super fight at the black belt level. In Jalen Fonacier vs Carlos Oliveira we discussed this interesting matchup with Carlos being brought into the UFC BJJ roster against the exciting style of Jalen.  Recorded 2-9-2026
