I’ve been a devoted listener of your podcast for many years. I genuinely enjoy your crime stories, and I especially love the Juicy Gossip mini-series, it’s a highlight for me.
That said, I felt compelled to reach out after listening to a recent episode in which a police officer was harshly criticized for expressing concern about a pig being drawn on his Starbucks cup. The language used to dismiss him and the name calling that followed stopped me in my tracks.
As the wife of a retired police officer, I deeply understand why an officer might feel unsettled in that situation. For 25 years, my husband kept his profession intentionally vague when we were out in public. We lived with the very real fear of retaliation from people who disliked law enforcement or from individuals he may have arrested. I can’t count how many times I worried about our food being tampered with, or worse. Those fears weren’t hypothetical; they were part of daily life.
In today’s climate, where tensions are high and trust feels increasingly fragile, those concerns are not unreasonable. The officer you spoke about is not just a uniform or a headline he’s a human being with a family, just like the rest of us.
While it came across to me that your commentary was shaped by political views that are critical of law enforcement, I truly believe this conversation can rise above politics. It doesn’t matter to me who someone votes for. What matters is remembering our shared humanity and choosing empathy over ridicule.
Words carry weight. I’ve always appreciated your voices and perspectives, which is why this moment stood out so sharply. I hope we can all strive to be better than this, to speak with compassion, even when we disagree.
