Do Statins Cause Dementia and Alzheimer's? The Truth Behind Statins, Memory, and Plant-Based Prevention

Hope everyone enjoyed the Reversing Heart Disease Naturally 2.0 Summit online. Keep an eye out for the upcoming replay weekend!
This week, Dr. Kahn covers some fascinating 'mini-topics,' including the effects of licorice on blood pressure, insights into cholesterol measures and survival highlighting the significance of elevated lipoprotein(a), the benefits of plant-based diets in preventing type 2 diabetes, and the potential of apple cider vinegar in aiding weight loss.
The main discussion delves into a common inquiry at the Kahn Center: Do statin medications contribute to dementia? Dr. Kahn examines a meta-analysis revealing that statins actually lower the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. Additionally, he shares findings from a recent study in Chicago that supports the notion that statins can decrease the risk of memory loss over time, especially in individuals with one or two ApoE4 genes. This comes as reassuring news to many concerned about the implications of carrying the ApoE4 gene.

Total Body Non-Contrast MRI: Ready For Prime Time Cancer Screening?

Dr. Kahn has just returned to Michigan, wrapping up a whirlwind two months in sunny southern Florida. Between seeing nearly 100 fresh faces and catching up with returning patients, it's been a ride he's truly thankful for.
This week's episode is a mixed bag of fascinating mini-topics, including the latest scoop on how fasting for three days or more can trim down that belly fat – all in the name of brain health. Plus, a heads-up on "ultra-processed" junk food: a new study links it to over 30 diseases, making it clear that it's not just your waistline at risk.
The main dish, though, is all about the potential game-changer in early disease detection: non-contrast total body MRI scans. Dr. Kahn shares his personal experience with one at ezra.com during his stay in Miami. Spoiler alert: the results were a relief. He'll walk you through the good, the bad, and the cost of this cutting-edge tool.

Niacin (Vitamin B3): Is There a Recent Study Showing it's Unsafe?

Niacin (Vitamin B3): Is There a Recent Study Showing it's Unsafe?

Dr. Kahn struggles this week to fit in all the new and exciting health news you should know for optimal health. Certainly, the report using the Prolon Fasting Mimicking Diet regularly lowers biological age and improves liver and immune health is noteworthy (www.prolonfmd.com/drjkahn). A study of Tai Chi for lowering blood pressure is a surprise as it ousted aerobic exercise for results. How about using red light therapy (PBM) for lowering blood sugar (www.redtherapy.co with code Drjkahn)?

The big news of the week is the deep dive: Is there a new study that proves that Niacin (Vitamin B3) is unsafe and may even cause heart disease? Headlines suggested it but Dr. Kahn dives into the details of the research and gives his opinion.

Fit Women over 70

Hi I just listened to your podcast with Dru Pirohot today. I liked it very much but some of it was over my head. I’m 73, fit, no medications, 21.9 BMI, workout regularly, excellent blood panel BUT No I haven’t ever had a heart scan for place , etc.

Here’s my question… can you Plse address mitral valve prolapse in women my age. I’ve had it ever since 40 y/o. No issues but knowing both my parents had heart disease ( poor lifestyle…fried food, drinking, smoking ) I leap my health in check.

Comments?
