Jordan and Tony. I really appreciate your podcast. I find the Q&A to be thoughtful and thorough with actionable plans versus quick fixes. I listened to the ICE episode most recently and found myself in agreement with you about 90%. I think where the dissonance is, for me, is in the way ICE and CBP are acting in our communities. Our president and his appointees have created a quota system for these agents in regards to arrests. Numbers might vary based on time, but I’ve heard of quotas being set of 3000 arrests or detainments per day. When operating within a quota like that, they are definitely not just going after the worse offenders that also happen to be illegal immigrants. This is how/why the fear is so high. People are being randomly targeted by the color of their skin or the accent with which they speak. Many are being picked up when they are showing up for their planned immigration check-ins while going through the legal process. And many of those worst offenders were already in local city or state custody prior to ICE presence, but handed over in cooperation. Which inflates their percentage when they aren’t actually doing that work. Overall I agreed with your statements that two things can be true at once. And the policy under which ICE and CBP are operating is racist and needs overhauling immediately.

I appreciate the time and thought put into the episode about ICE. As predicted, I didn’t agree with every detail, but I sincerely valued the nuance and clarity. Thank you, Jordan.
