I’ve been listening to these girls since early 2019. It has always been one of my favorite podcasts, so I honestly can’t believe I’m even writing this review right now. Maybe I’ve grown and changed, maybe they’ve stopped watching what they say as much, or maybe it’s both. But more and more lately, I’m finding it impossible to listen.
Between the misinformation and constantly defending celebrities who are proven to be horrible people, if not outright criminals, it’s just become too much. I’m not someone who expects influencers or celebrities to constantly use their platform for causes or activism, but I DO expect you to not defend or promote objectively bad people.
I think Claudia usually speaks from a place of not fully knowing the story because she’s reacting to bits and pieces she sees on TikTok, but Jackie very clearly seems set in her opinions, much like their mother.
I’m very blessed and privileged with where I am now in my career, though that definitely was not always the case. Even so, I think most normal people are tired of hearing billionaires defended and worshipped or seeing someone like James Charles constantly given the benefit of the doubt. There is no such thing as an ethical billionaire, and they certainly do not need the public rooting for them.
This is just one small example of the many things that have rubbed me the wrong way recently. I just think we’re at a point in the world where a lot of people are struggling, and it’s time to stop blindly worshipping celebrities without looking a little deeper at who they are and what they stand for.
And by the way, this isn’t a commentary on politics. Like a lot of millennials, I have takes on both sides of the fence. Regardless of political views, you should be able to acknowledge unethical behavior.
