Callin says she works to empower others in their roles, not by telling them what to do, but by helping them figure out how to handle challenges on their own. “I have learned as a leader to practice my own pause and ask my staff, ‘What do you think? I’m giving you the floor right now to say, Hey, what do you think is the best option?’ In doing that, it’s never intended for me to get a perfect answer because the one thing we all know too well about child welfare is there’s never a perfect answer.
