With the arrival of the offseason and the recommendation of Holly Anderson, I’ve made the choice to put HITD in my rotation. While driving home from watching the Indiana championship celebration with my mother, alive with the joy of an unfathomable achievement, I listened to the latest episode which hit its apex with Felder’s exploration of his deep-sown dislike of Michigan thanks to a traumatic barbecue experience at the hands of his wife’s relations. As a Hoosier exile who’s been in Northern Michigan for 20-plus years, I was driving through the rolling hills of cherry orchards in the crystal cold of sub-zero snowbound Up North winter with Felder explaining the indignity of what he was served on his introduction to part of the country. I have no quarrel with his argument and am more than willing spread the word to my fellow Michiganders to keep the very word “barbecue” out of their mouths. I hope that someday, Mr. Felder has the opportunity to drive past southeastern Michigan and experience something more native to the state. Five stars, no notes. Subscriber for life.
