Hi Payton & Garett, I am curious about something that was said this week on episode 337. You both talk about how there are probably more murderers walking around than we realize, but by “becoming a civilized group of people” most of those murderers probably don’t act out on their murderous desires. Did we become civilized after the colonists murdered and waged genocide on the First People’s of this land? Or is that apart of the “hasn’t always been the case in history” white-washing? I’ll be clear- I am a white listener who is learning about the impact of the vocabulary I choose to use and the ideas I propagate. Racism is built into so much of our foundational knowledge as white American kids. It’s like, was that a sneaky way to promote the pilgrims genocide of native peoples, or just an ignorant comment that should be recognized and apologized for? Staying curious, thanks for the discourse.
