Episode 35: Geeta Girl Discusses Feeling Powerless to Purposeful

When illness becomes a central character in our lives—whether we are caring for someone we love or facing our own health challenges—it is easy to feel helpless, powerless, and as though life is happening to us. But what if we have more agency than we realize? In this episode, we explore how the teachings of the Bhagavad Geeta invite us to reclaim our power, even in the midst of profoundly difficult times. We discuss how our response shapes not only our own experience but also the experiences of those around us. By becoming an example of resilience, compassion, and steadiness, we can influence others in meaningful ways. We also reflect on how life's greatest challenges can become opportunities for personal growth and evolution. Rather than asking, "Why is this happening to me?" we consider the transformative question, "How can I grow through this?" Even our most difficult moments, and perhaps, especially those moments, can deepen our wisdom, strengthen our character, and reveal our inner resilience. And we discover that our greatest power lies not in controlling our circumstances, but in choosing how we show up within them. Episode 34: Geeta Girl Discusses Finding Steadiness in the Storm

In this episode, we continue our conversation about what the Bhagavad Geeta teaches us about navigating the journey of caregiving. We explore the critical role of equanimity — the ability to remain steady amidst life’s inevitable changes, uncertainties, and challenges. Drawing from the Geeta’s lessons, we discuss practical ways to cultivate equanimity: meditation, accepting the natural ups and downs of life, creating moments of joy and happiness within our daily duties, practicing gratitude, and recognizing the importance of caring for ourselves during times of difficulty (especially then). This episode is a guide to building resilience and finding perspective while walking through life’s most difficult moments. Episode 33: Geeta Girl Discusses Navigating the Ups and Downs of Caregiving

Caring for a loved one who is ill is a role no one prepares you for. I’m Shaila, co-host of the Geeta Girl podcast, and that was my experience through the three years of my cousin’s battle with cancer – and in the grief that followed after she passed. During the time of her illness, lessons from the Bhagavad Geeta like equanimity, gratitude, and “do your best, leave the rest” became more than philosophy—they became something I leaned on. They helped me navigate the ups and downs of caregiving – the competing emotions of hope and fear; the exhaustion; the decisions you never expected to make; the stress; and the meaningful moments you come to treasure. This season, I’m sharing my story so we can explore those Geeta teachings together—what they can offer when we’re caring for someone we love, and in later episodes, how they can help us navigate grief. Whether you are in the middle of caregiving, have been through it, or are trying to support a caregiver in your life,  we hope this podcast can offer practical insights on coping and sense of not feeling alone.
