Blizzard of Lies, Part Two: Dave Wedge on John O’Keefe, Karen Read & the Bad Actors in Cop Town, USA, Canton, Massachusetts

Inside Blizzard of Lies and the bad actors that helped turn this case into the circus it became. As the smoke from the trials is cleared, Read and her defense team face suits and counter suits with many civil cases in the wake of her acquittal last year. Blizzard of Lies, part two, with author Dave Wedge on John O'Keefe and the O'Keefe family, how the Read trials changed how we look at crime and policing, and the role journalism, activism, and independent reporting have in crime cases. Other topics: Kevin Reddington, the Clancy case, the Edgewater Technology workplace shooting (Reddington was the killer's defense attorney - he lost) on December 26, 2000 in Wakefield, Mass, grotesque police misconduct and (alleged) sexual abuse in Sandra Birchmore's case, and I question whether justice activists will show up for Latarsha Sanders, the Brockton (Mass) mother of five who was granted a new trial for the murder of her two children. More about Dave Wedge and where you can see him at davewedge.com. Online at crimeofthetruestkind.com I am a victim advocate, I have an understanding of trauma-informed victim-centered advocacy. Who Killed Karina Holmer? The Unsolved Murder That Still Haunts Boston

New episodes return this Fall. We revisit the unsolved murder case that haunts Boston with replay of our 2021 episode with Boston Globe reporter, Emily Sweeney. Who Killed Karina Holmer? A question we will not stop asking. Karina Holmer was murdered 30 years ago today. She was 20, barely an adult, and straddling two worlds when she was pulled from a dumpster by someone rummaging for cans. It was a brutal discovery. On the afternoon of Sunday, June 23, 1996, her remains were found wrapped in trash bags in a dumpster in the Fenway. She was strangled, washed, bisected, discarded. Only part of Karina was returned to her family in Sweden. The other part of her has never been found. Over the years, so many stories have been told, suspicions raised, misinformation spread. It is inevitable, I'm afraid, to stop people from theorizing and making stuff up. In this replay, we trace what we knew about those last hours and where the investigation led. In the years since I began researching her case, I have learned more and spoken to people with information about those months, weeks, and days leading up to her murder. I am putting it all together, with the plan to vet and share in future episodes. Until then, I continue to seek information about Karina's story. I continue to advocate for her.  WhoKilledKarinaHolmer.com crimeofthetruestkind.com/karina-holmer-replay Anngelle will be appearing at Crimestery Festival in Danvers, Mass October 9-11, 2026 Anngelle will be a panelist at Crime Bake 2026 in Dedham November 6-8 Passes for both are on sale now Crime of the Truest Kind Created, written, and hosted by Anngelle Wood online at crimeofthetruestkind.com follow @crimeofthetruestkind Fall Shows! The Unsolved Murder of Mary Joe Frug, Cambridge, Massachusetts (part one)

The headlines and news broadcasts in 1991 were filled with war, brutality, and harassment. We were faced with a new uncertainty. We also saw the dawning of a new culture phenomenon in the birth of reality tv and the grunge explosion. It was a different time. That April, a feminist scholar and New England School of Law professor is murdered in her exclusive neighborhood outside Harvard Square. High stakes for Cambridge Police to solve, no doubt. So why is her case still unresolved 35 years later? Mary Joe Frug, a 49-year-old professor and mother of two is stabbed by an unknown assailant just yards from her home on Sparks. The mysteries that surround her shocking murder seem endless. Was she targeted for her feminist teachings? Did she come upon someone full of rage at random? Was there a motive to this horrible crime? Did neighbors in this tree lined street here her struggle? It is a brutal killing that remains unsolved more than three decades later. The case stunned Cambridge and the academic world. Her murder raises more questions than answers, and the investigation has long been clouded by speculation, controversy, and silence. In this episode, part one of two, Mary Joe Frug’s life and work, the night of the murder, early theories, and unanswered questions. Replay | An Arrest! Justice for Charline Rosemond

Replay from one year ago! Justice is coming for Charline at last! News broke in the 16-year-old murder case will be resolved. The first real hope for justice for Charline and her family.  On Thurs, April 10, 2025, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced the arrest of Heinsky Anacreon, age 38, of Malden, Mass, who was indicted by a Middlesex County grand jury on charges of murder, willfully misleading a police officer and willfully misleading an attorney.charging him with first-degree murder in this cold case that has haunted Charline's family since the day she disappeared on April 7, 2009. The investigation revealed a heartbreaking betrayal - Charline was lured by so-called friends with the promise of a sweet deal on a car, only to be robbed and killed. Most disturbing perhaps is the evidence that after the murder, her killers celebrated with a bottle of Moet champagne and toasted their windfall.  For those who've followed Crime of the Truest Kind, this case has been near to my heart. After sharing her case in a live show in 2024, and interviewing Charline's sister Rose (listen to episodes 71 and 72) last fall and advocating for this case at every opportunity, seeing this development brings joy. Nothing can bring Charline back or erase her family's 16 years of hoping and waiting for her killers to be caught. As we look toward a trial, I will continue following every development. Fall Shows! Found: Jill Kloppenburg, Tyngsboro, Massachusetts

Over two weeks this March, Eastern Massachusetts witnessed the heartbreaking conclusion of three separate missing persons cases. Three families that languished for months. Each case carried its own mystery. The first break came when an unnamed individual contacted police in Nashua, New Hampshire with information about a murder confession. That tip set off a chain of events that led homicide detectives to a modest home in the quiet town of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. Inside the garage, beneath epoxy and concrete, they found human remains. Thankfully, this person came forward or the fate of 47‑year‑old Jill Kloppenburg would remain unknown. She was vulnerable, she was missed. Now she has finally been found. Within hours of that discovery, another alert came in. This time from Wakefield. A body had been recovered from Lake Quannapowitt, the same area that had been the focus of searches for 45-year-old Jason Thomas, missing since December 13, 2025. Jason was last seen on surveillance footage crossing a street, heading toward the train station. His family explored every possibility, but this cold and snowy winter made searching the lake impossible. With the spring thaw came a sad end to his family's search. And then, just one week later, came the third case. Leonard Mercury, a 57‑year‑old man who had vanished on October 31, 2025, after leaving a hospital where he was receiving mental health treatment. He walked out in the early morning hours wearing only hospital scrubs and nothing more - no shoes, no wallet, no identification, no phone. His family feared he was distressed, vulnerable, and in danger. For months, they remained hopeful that Leonard found safety somewhere. A drone helped locate the presence of a person in Crystal Lake and Leonard was recovered after missing for five months.
