The Dr. John Delony Show

Honestly, this is my favorite podcast ever. I’m so glad I found him on the Ramsey podcast. Dr. John is level-headed and gives great advice based on his many years of experience. He personally has experienced a ton between working in schools, colleges, and sitting with hurting people. He is empathetic, kind, but also gives people the truth even if it hurts them for a minute. I hate all of the negative reviews mention one specific story that someone disagrees with. Of course people may disagree with his opinion sometimes, but he challenges people to think differently, and if we could all see someone else’s point and give it some thought, the world would be a much better place. And of course his banter with Kelly just makes my day!!

And they are FANTASTIC! I’ve dealt with trauma, PTSD, and reactivity my whole life. Even though the stories are all different, there’s always a nugget from every single one that I can apply to my own life. His advice has also helped me to help others using all that I’m learning.

I normally enjoy the show and find Dr. John gives a balanced perspective, but he totally missed the mark on the latest episode for not calling out how immature it is for a 34 year man to be dating a 19 year old girl. He glossed over it but given Dr. John talks so much about how he values his own daughter, how messed up would he find it if a guy 15 years her senior was dating her, when her frontal lobe wasn't even done forming? He made one little comment about it and then proceeded to take the 34 year old DJ seriously in wondering if she was gonna be his "special lady". 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮I hope he speaks to his fumble on a future episode otherwise i can't keep listening.

I usually find John to be measured, compassionate, and kind. However in a recent podcast about a mom finding out her daughter is dating the girl she is having sleepovers with he said if she is going to hold on to her values she has to go all in on it and accept the consequences that her daughter may cut her off but it’s like smoking-of course as a good parent she would tell her daughter that she doesn’t approve of smoking but there is nothing her daughter can do to make her not love her. This may sound good on the surface but it’s deeply harmful to gay kids. People’s sexuality isn’t up for your debate. Parents-you do not own your kids sexuality! It isn’t a different set of values. As a mental health professional with a PhD, I think multiple PhDs how can you continue to carry on with this trope. Conservative and Christian parents continue to have gay kids cause that’s just part of the human family. Gay kids have higher rates of depression, suicidal ideation because of nonsense like this-especially in conservative Christian homes. Let’s talk about healthy sexuality, like consent, honesty, safety…those values apply to heterosexual and homosexual relationships alike. Being gay is not a bad habit like smoking. We can do better for our kids and mental health professionals should be held to a higher standard or they shouldn’t be working with people. Sorry John initially you gave some good advice but the smoking comment negated that- you missed the mark on this one big time.
