Gen X, Are We Adults Yet? - A Podcast For All Generations Hi, I am Jason, and I’m Greg. We are Gen X and welcome to our podcast! We are the last generation to grow up without internet, or computers. We are the last generation that played outside all day, until the street lights came on. We watched cartoons on Saturday mornings, while reading the cereal box during commercials. We didn’t have cell phones in our pockets, we shared one house phone. Growing up over the last thirty plus years we have learned a few things about life, raising kids, losing family, managing money, having a professional career, self care, and much much more. Each episode we talk about our experiences as Gen X’ers, Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and how our lives have been influenced and shaped today. We are now hitting our 50’s and we are still wondering, Are We Adults Yet?

    Gen X grew up without the internet. Now AI can write, create, research, automate tasks, and even act on our behalf. Some of us use it every day. Some don’t trust it at all. This episode, we’re digging into the good, the scary, and the complete b******t surrounding AI — from useful everyday tools to job loss, data centers, hacking, autonomous agents, and the full-on Matrix nightmare scenario. Is AI just another tool… or are we building something we won’t be able to control?

    What AI Doesn't Know About Gen X

    But it doesn’t know what Gen X felt like. It doesn’t know the sprint to answer the house phone before anybody else did. It doesn’t know getting last-second instructions from your parents right before you picked up. It doesn’t know the fear of hearing, “Take a message,” or being told, “If it’s Aunt Sue, tell her I’ll call her back.” It doesn’t know what it meant to check the class lists before school started and immediately look for your friends, your crush, and your social future. It doesn’t know how every Gen X kid has a bike-pedal shin story. Not just a scrape — a full, bloody, dirt-filled, hot-and-cold disaster that ended with, “Do I need stitches… or should I just keep playing?” It doesn’t know the misery of the fluoride rinse. The pain of waiting for the DJ to shut up so you could record your favorite song off the radio. The rage of hearing the same hit song every twelve minutes for months. The disappointment of terrible movie sequels. The weird hatred we had for the Jerry Lewis telethon because it hijacked our TV weekend. Or why paper grocery bags weren’t trash — they were book covers, school supplies, and sometimes homemade fashion. This episode is about the stuff you had to live through to understand. Not the big textbook history of Gen X — the small stuff. The everyday stuff. The random, painful, hilarious, deeply specific things that made us who we are. Because AI can summarize Gen X… …but it still doesn’t know what it was like to be Gen X.     What happens when a retired Marine looks at two giant boxes of modern MREs and immediately starts talking smack? Last time Jamie was on the show, he spotted Jason’s stash and declared that Marines never got “fancy shit like that.” His exact assessment? “We ate f*****g mud and then kicked its ass.” So naturally, we invited him back to cook dinner. This week, Jamie—a retired U.S. Marine and damn good cook—is taking modern MREs, dehydrated food, and field-available rations and attempting to turn them into actual gourmet plates. Meanwhile, his best friend Jeff is bringing a ridiculous collection of vintage military rations, surplus, memorabilia, and whatever else he managed to drag into the studio.     Dude… what the hell is happening to our childhood? This summer has been rough on Gen X. The people, places, and pop-culture icons that helped define our childhood keep disappearing—and every time we think we're done saying goodbye, 2026 says, “Hold my beer.” Columbia House is shutting down. We’ve lost Catherine O’Hara, Robert Duvall, Chuck Norris, Bonnie Tyler, and now Dolly Parton. These weren’t just celebrities to Gen X—they were part of the background noise of our lives: movies we quoted, songs we blasted, TV we watched, and names we’ve known since we were kids. And just when you think this episode is getting too depressing, there's some good news: Ricky from Skid Row’s “18 and Life” is apparently still doing hard time. 😂 This week on Gen X: Are We Adults Yet?, we're talking about what happens when you reach the age where nostalgia starts colliding with mortality.
