Conscious Rebels Podcast: Hijacking Jesus, Part One

How did a message about loving your neighbor turn into a religion built on blood, fear, and eternal torment? In this episode, Paul and Caitlin trace the actual history of how Jesus's teaching got hijacked, starting six centuries before Jesus was even born. They go back to the Babylonian captivity (Jeremiah 8:8, "the lying pen of the scribes made God's law into a lie") and show how Israel's priests absorbed blood atonement theology from Babylonian and Sumerian mystery religions, turning a simple law into 613 burdensome commandments no one could actually follow. From there, they trace the rise of the Essenes and Nazarenes, the Jewish mystics who rejected blood sacrifice and believed the law was really just "love your neighbor as yourself," and the movement Jesus and John the Baptist came out of.Paul and Caitlin also dismantle the doctrine of hell, showing that "eternal conscious torment" isn't in the Old Testament at all, and take apart the Apostle Paul's argument in Romans 3 that "no one is righteous," revealing the specific Old Testament passages Paul left out that call Abraham, Job, Zechariah, and Elizabeth righteous. They connect all of this to the psychological toll institutional Christianity takes today: shame, hypervigilance, and a narcissistic-abuse-style pattern of dangling an unreachable ideal to keep people compliant. This is Part 1 of a series unpacking exactly how Jesus's original message was hijacked, and what it actually said before it was rewritten. Masculine Containment, Religious Conditioning, and What Men Were Never Taught with Alex Charfen

Caitlin sits down with Alex Charfen, founder of The Brotherhood Society and creator of the concept of masculine containment, for a conversation that goes way beyond relationship advice. Alex has been working with men online since 2007 and spent years studying why the same patterns keep showing up in relationship after relationship regardless of who either partner is. What he found is that most men were never given an actual initiation into how to lead themselves, and that religion, conditioning, and childhood wounding filled that gap with something that looks like leadership but produces the opposite. The conversation covers the trigger, escalation, rupture, withdraw, repair cycle that shows up in almost every relationship and why repair is the wrong thing to focus on. What masculine containment actually means and why it has nothing to do with dominance over anyone else. Why men who stop reacting and start regulating often find that everything in their lives, including their businesses, changes dramatically. The role obligation sex plays in destroying intimacy and how so much of what religion teaches men about their wives is producing the exact opposite of what they actually want. Caitlin brings her own lens to all of it, including how Christianity trained her to elevate men at her own expense, what it looks like to finally stop doing that, and how this connects to everything she is exploring in Mental Hell, her documentary on the link between evangelical Christianity and mental health. Conscious Rebels Podcast: Jesus Never Taught Blood Atonement

Christians have three go-to verses they use to prove Jesus died to satisfy God's anger. In this episode, Paul and Caitlin go through each one and show that none of them say what you've been told. They break down "a ransom for many," the "blood of my covenant" line from Matthew, and the go-to Old Testament prophecy in Isaiah 53, reading each one in its original context instead of the version you heard in church. Paul, a former attorney, calls this what it actually is: proof-texting, pulling a line out of context to build a case it was never meant to support. The conversation also gets into how the virgin birth prophecy in Isaiah 7 has nothing to do with a virgin or a coming Messiah, why nobody actually knows who wrote the Gospels, and how the New Testament canon was chosen based on whether a book matched existing orthodoxy, not whether it was true. Paul and Caitlin connect all of this back to Jesus's actual mission: not to satisfy an angry God with blood, but to expose and dismantle a corrupt religious system.Plus: an update on their upcoming documentary, Mental Hell, and details on their new weekly gathering, Deconstruction Circle, happening Wednesday nights. Opting Out of the “Taco” System? A Conversation with Chris Hughes of Freedom Law Group

In this episode, Caitlin sits down with Chris Hughes from Freedom Law Group for a candid, podcast-style conversation about one of the most controversial topics people whisper about but rarely understand: opting out of the federal tax system through the revocation of election process. Chris shares his personal story, how he got into this work, and what most people misunderstand about taxpayer status in the first place. They discuss the difference between what people assume is mandatory versus what is actually elected, how enforcement typically unfolds, and why so many people comply without ever examining the structure they’re participating in. If you’ve ever felt confused about "tacos", forced contributions, or whether participation is truly voluntary, this episode will give you a new lens to look through. The second half of this conversation includes an extended Q&A that is available exclusively inside Conscious Rebels Network.
