About Time for True Crime

It’s About Time for True Crime! Join your new favorite hosts as we explore true crime cases of all kinds, drawing on more than a decade of combined education—and even more real-world experience—in and around the criminal justice field. Each episode explores the events, circumstances, psychology, sociology, and investigative details behind the crimes. We dive beyond the headline to understand not only what happened, but why. While many episodes focus on specific cases, we also explore special topics within the world of crime and criminal justice, from investigative techniques to patterns in criminal behavior. We balance the heavy hitting material with some much needed sarcasm and dry humor, because sometimes, if you’re not laughing, you’re crying! Most importantly, we aim to bring light and voice to the victims and survivors. We hope to build a community that honors those affected, learns from the past, and works toward preventing these tragedies from happening again. There’s room for everyone at the ATFTC table!

    Episode 225: Lee Cawthon, the Murder of Rebecca Cawthon Lee Cawthon began dating Genie Gagnon in high school, and throughout their marriage, he was in all ways, abusive. His step-cousin Becky began babysitting their children, and a romance budded between Lee and Becky. Though Genie did not consent, Becky was soon a third partner in their marriage before Genie saw her chance to run away with her children. Lee and Becky married, and continued introducing other women into their relationship. In 2017, they allowed their first male partner, which seemingly started an even faster downward spiral that would result in Becky’s murder.     Episode 224: Stephanie Lazarus, the Murder of Sherri Rasmussen In 1986, 29 year old newlywed Sherri Rasmussen was brutally murdered in her home. After her husband John was cleared by investigators, her case fell cold after they believed her murder must’ve been a burglary gone wrong with no leads. Decades later, the case was reopened and investigators arrived at a new conclusion: the suspect was one of their own.     Episode 223: The Murder of Bernice Gray Bernice Gray dropped off her toddler daughter, Stephanie, at daycare on her way into work December 26, 1991. When Bernice’s mother received a call that Bernice hadn’t shown up for her shift, panic set in. An investigation into her disappearance would lead investigators to her ex-boyfriend, the father of her child; a man ten years her senior, Robert Pann. Progress in her case took 5 long years and in that time, Robert had remarried. When his new wife almost seemingly faced the same fate, charges were filed in her disappearance at last.     David and Kristie Evans

    Episode 222: David and Kristie Evans David Evans, and his wife Kristie, were well known, upstanding members of their small town community in Ada, Oklahoma. David was the pastor at their local Baptist church, bringing a new-age, progressive approach, and his wife spent much of her time volunteering there as the beloved pastor’s wife. They were a seemingly perfect couple, but a peak behind the curtain would reveal something different. In March 2021, David was shot and killed as he slept beside Kristie. In the end, two people would be arrested in his murder. This case gained national attention for its scandalous nature that involved violence, abuse, coercion, jail house letters, an unconventional sexual relationship, and a love triangle.     Episode 221: Murder on Aisle 52 In 2023, 18 year old Brooklyn Sims was working a shift at a Pensacola, FL Home Depot when her ex boyfriend, Keith Agee, gunned her down in the middle of the aisle. He was promptly arrested, but after a search of his phone records, his mother, Sheila Agee, was also arrested. Sheila was Brooklyn’s work supervisor, and the two had grown close after the birth of Brooklyn and Keith’s daughter, Casey.     Kara Robinson’s Escape

    Episode 220: Kara Robinson’s Escape In June 2002, 15 year old Kara Robinson was abducted from the front yard of her friend’s house in Columbia, SC. Kara suffered 18 hours of hell, taken by a man who attacked her physically, sexually, and emotionally. Kara began memorizing his apartment, phone numbers, serial numbers, and any details she could. When her captor, 38 year old Richard Evonitz, went to sleep, she slipped through her handcuffs and ran, likely saving her own life.     The Murder of Dru Sjodin

    Episode 219: The Murder of Dru Sjodin In November 2003, Dru Sjodin was a 22 year old college student with the world at her feet when she was kidnapped, assaulted, and murdered by Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. Dru had just finished her shift at the Columbia mall and was on the phone with her boyfriend while walking toward her car when she abruptly hung up the call. She was never heard from again. Rodriguez was a convicted sex offender who had been released from prison just 6 months prior to Dru’s disappearance. The murder of such a bright light stirred up outrage as many called her murder preventable and accused the justice system of releasing an unrehabilitated predator.
