Revelation Within On the Go!

Heidi Bylsma-Epperson and Christina Motley

Revelation Within equips people with life-giving, grace-infused mind renewal tools to deepen their intimacy with Jesus so that counterfeit comforts (like overeating) lose their allure, and the joy and hope of Jesus fills their lives, satisfying their souls. In our podcast we talk about mind renewal, tips and tricks for getting and staying free from counterfeit comforts like overeating (over-scrolling, over-drinking, over-anythinging...)We began as Thin Within in 1975, a pioneer in intuitive, mindful eating back when diets were in their hey day! Thin Within has taught people how to tune in to their body's natural signals of hunger and satisfaction, remaining present with their meals and delighting in tastes and textures--and the Lord! In the 1980s, Thin Within became a Christian ministry, showing people that the emptiness that they have felt and often filled with food that their bodies don't require, was really placed in there to be filled full with God through Jesus. He wants to set us free from all strongholds! We  rebranded our ministry and our podcast in 2023 to Revelation Within. Join us!Visit us in our RevWithin.Team community as well! Coaching From the Inside Out

Send us Fan Mail We know that wanting to lose weight can sometimes feel like a spiritual problem, so in this episode we tackle the honest question many people quietly ask: “Is it wrong to want to lose weight?” We talk about how to hold that desire with open hands rather than allowing our weight to determine our worth, safety, acceptance, or hope for the future. We explore the deeper beliefs that can sit underneath weight-loss goals—“If I’m smaller, I’ll be accepted,” “Then I’ll feel in control,” or “Then I can finally live”—and consider what happens when we bring those longings honestly before God. We also explain what one-on-one coaching looks like within Revelation Within: starting exactly where you are, moving gently, and allowing God to reveal what He wants to show us in His timing. We share why we moved from Thin Within to Revelation Within and why our focus is ultimately on knowing God and growing in our identity in Christ, rather than simply pursuing a different body. We also take an honest look at GLP-1 medications and weight-loss surgery, recognizing that these tools may affect appetite and weight while acknowledging that they don’t automatically address body shame, fear of regain, or the deeper reasons we turn to food. For us, mind renewal is an ongoing practice that helps us keep bringing those deeper places to God—even when life gets hard. If you’re tired of the scale defining you and you want real food freedom rooted in faith, listen now, then share this with a friend who needs gentleness and truth. The Shape-Shifting Trap

Send us Fan Mail If you’ve ever believed that a smaller body would finally buy you peace, this conversation meets you with honesty and real hope.  In this episode we talk about the desire so many women have to change their bodies, hoping a smaller body will finally bring peace. We don’t shame that desire, but we also recognize that it can’t carry everything we’re asking it to carry. Christina shares what she has seen through years of one-on-one coaching with women in all kinds of circumstances—from those who have tried countless diets or are considering bariatric surgery or GLP-1 medications, to women who appear “fine” on the outside but live with body dysmorphia and daily shame. Again and again, we’ve seen that the struggle with food and body image may be a symptom of something deeper. We also explore mind renewal as a daily practice rooted in Romans 12:2 and consider how we can use weight-loss tools without allowing weight to become our guiding light. We talk about loss, changing identities, counterfeit comforts, and what happens when we begin replacing shame and striving with truth, grace, and surrender. Most of all, we explore what it can look like to stop viewing God as disappointed in us and instead learn to trust Him as kind, present, and faithful in every part of our journey. If this resonates, listen all the way through, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review so more women can find this path to freedom. The Story Behind Our Name

Send us Fan Mail We’re sharing the story behind a significant change for us: why we let go of the name Thin Within and stepped into Revelation Within. We go back to Thin Within’s roots in the 1970s, when the simple practice of eating when physically hungry and stopping when satisfied offered a welcome alternative to strict diet rules. While we still value that wisdom, we’ve also seen how even a helpful boundary can become another form of control when fear, perfectionism, or shame take over. If you’ve ever turned “Am I hungry?” into a scorecard you could pass or fail, you’ll understand why this distinction matters. Over the years, God continued to deepen what we were learning about the “hungers beneath the hunger,” mind renewal, and freedom from shame. Romans 12:2 has become central as we learn to recognize lies about our bodies and our worth, practice truth, and distinguish conviction from condemnation. We’ve also discovered that this journey is about far more than food—it’s about discipleship, identity in Christ, and learning to turn to God instead of counterfeit comforts when life hurts. In Revelation Within, our focus is on allowing God to reveal truth and guide us toward the next faithful step, rather than making a particular body outcome the goal. We hope this conversation helps you understand not only why our name changed, but where God is leading us now. Is Revelation Within For You?

Send us Fan Mail We know how easily dieting can pull us into an exhausting cycle of rigid control, inevitable slip-ups, and shame. In this episode, we take a clear and honest look at what Christian freedom with food can actually look like—and whether it’s really different from another diet plan with spiritual language added. We explain what Revelation Within is at its core: a Christ-centered approach that brings mind renewal, identity in Christ, spirit-led eating, joyful movement, and learning from experience together. Rather than focusing only on changing behavior, we talk about what may be happening underneath our eating and how food can become a way of coping with loneliness, anxiety, pressure, or pain. We also share some practical ways to recognize whether this approach might fit where you are right now. Maybe you’re simply tired of the shame-and-control cycle, questioning the messages of diet culture, or longing to bring your faith into your relationship with food and your body. We’re honest about outcomes, too: we don’t promise weight loss, but we don’t shame anyone for wanting body change. Instead, we invite you to bring your hopes, fears, and mixed motives to God and learn to trust Him one step at a time. If you’ve been wondering what Revelation Within is really about, we hope this conversation gives you clarity, encouragement, and a starting point for your own journey. Guest Interview: Peace With Food

Send us Fan Mail We sit down with Michelle for an honest and encouraging conversation about what it looks like to find peace with food after decades of dieting, striving, and struggling with body image. Michelle shares how she first discovered Thin Within (later Revelation Within), walked away when things seemed “good,” and eventually returned when her efforts to control food began to unravel. Together, we explore spirit-led eating, the difference between restriction and freedom, and why grace—not willpower—is at the heart of lasting change. Michelle also vulnerably shares about early image pressure, trauma, and using food as comfort, and how she is learning to let Jesus meet her in those tender places without condemnation. We also get practical as Michelle shares the mind-renewal tools she uses in everyday life, including the simple question, “What is true, God?” We talk about using Scripture to challenge lies like “I’m no good” and “I have to fix this to be okay,” while discovering how a secure identity in Christ affects not only our relationship with food and our bodies, but also fear of man, conflict, disappointment, and anxiety. If you’re longing for Christian eating freedom, healing from diet culture, or a calmer relationship with food and your body, we hope Michelle’s story gives you both encouragement and a next step toward experiencing God’s grace right in the middle of everyday life. What Are You Really Seeking?

Send us Fan Mail Sometimes our lives look “fine” on the outside while we feel ruled on the inside by pressure, cravings, people-pleasing, and the belief that we have to earn rest. In this episode, we get practical about boundaries as loving limits that protect our freedom—especially when food, body image, exercise, and coping habits become tangled up with shame and urgency. We begin with movement and exercise, talking honestly about how easy it is to use workouts to repay eating, chase worthiness, or push through pain. From there, we explore “counterfeit comforts” like scrolling, streaming, shopping, overworking, alcohol, and reassurance-seeking. One of the simplest tools we return to is the pause: before we reach for the next distraction or comfort, we stop, name what we’re feeling, ask, “What am I hoping to receive?”, and invite God into the moment so we can choose rather than simply react. We also talk about boundaries with our time, relationships, and rest, including practical words we can use when we encounter pressure, disrespect, harsh tones, or yelling. We explore how over-explaining can become an attempt to manage someone else’s opinion and how Galatians 6 helps us distinguish between carrying another person’s burdens and taking responsibility for their load. And because productivity culture often teaches us that we can rest only after everything is finished—which is basically never—we come back to the importance of receiving rest without having to earn it. We close with five discernment questions to bring to God, helping us recognize the difference between healthy boundaries and fear-based walls, punishment, or control. If this conversation helps you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a grace-filled “no,” and leave a review so more people can find the podcast. Can Boundaries Set You Free?

Send us Fan Mail A boundary can sound like rejection, but we’ve discovered that it can also be an act of trust. In this episode, we take what we’ve learned about boundaries in Spirit-led eating and expand it into everyday life—our time, attention, relationships, rest, productivity, conversations, and even the places we turn for comfort when we’re stressed or afraid. We talk honestly about common boundary traps, including using boundaries to avoid difficult conversations, trying to control other people, or believing that perfect boundaries will protect us from ever being hurt or disappointed. Grounding the conversation in Scripture and Jesus’ example, we explore how healthy boundaries can create space for life to flourish and how Sabbath reminds us that we were never meant to live at the mercy of endless demands. We also get practical, asking two questions from 1 Corinthians 6:12: Is this beneficial, and is this beginning to master me? We apply those questions to social media, diet culture content, and the emotional “fruit” left behind by what we consume. Christina shares candidly about what breast cancer treatment, fear, and online content revealed about what she was taking in, while Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts. We also offer practical ways to step away from body and diet conversations—and an internal boundary for responding to cruel self-talk with truth and compassion. Ultimately, boundaries aren’t about controlling life or avoiding discomfort; they’re about learning to trust God enough to choose what helps us live and love well. If this encourages you, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review. What boundary would be a holy yes to peace for you? What If You Stopped Dieting?!

Send us Fan Mail Diet culture can make eating feel like a courtroom, where every bite seems to prove whether we’re “good” or “bad.” We want something different. In this episode, we share a grace-filled approach to eating boundaries that doesn’t turn food into another diet plan or spiritual performance. We explore a simple, body-honoring rhythm: hunger opens the meal, and the peaceful place of “just enough” closes it. Along the way, we unpack the five intentions of Spirit-led eating in five memorable words: wait, welcome, choose, attend, stop. We talk about what each one looks like in real life—from waiting for hunger without watching the clock, to welcoming God into an ordinary meal, choosing food that delights and supports us, attending to the moment without demanding perfection, and stopping from a place of care rather than fear. We also address the questions that can make this approach feel complicated. Is listening to hunger and fullness really spiritual, or are we simply following our bodies? What happens when hunger cues have been muted by years of dieting, stress, recovery needs, health challenges, or GLP-1 medications? And what do we do when we eat without hunger or go beyond “just enough”? Our answer is not shame—it’s curiosity, grace, and a willingness to look and learn with the Lord. We can return to Him in the very next moment, without condemnation, and keep practicing freedom one meal at a time. If you want Christian encouragement, mindful eating tools, and a practical path outside of diet rules, press play.
