Plum Creek Church: Podcast

Plum Creek Church

We’re a local church that wants to follow the way of Jesus in simple and practical ways. We love people wherever they are on their spiritual journey and believe that if Jesus was right about God, life, and the soul, then it only makes sense to rearrange our lives around what he says is true. That way of life is then filtered through our values: Live Like Jesus Live Life Together Live Irrationally Generous Live Contributing These hallmarks of a changed life provide the needed target our God-sized vision requires.  That’s why our vision of seeing changed lives, changing lives is so important to us—because when you choose to follow Jesus like this, it really does change everything. Who's setting the pace of your soul? /// Red Letters: Part 3

We're so glad you've chosen to listen to our online experience! Here at Plum Creek, we’re all about changed lives, changing lives; and what that simply means is that what Christ has done in us is not just for us, but it’s for us to share with others in our community and around the world.     ///   If you're using this teaching for a Home Groups setting, we've included discussion prompts to help guide your conversation: 1. Steve shared that our souls need a pacesetter. Who or what is currently setting the pace of your life, and how is that pace affecting your relationship with Jesus? 2. Jesus invites those who are weary and burdened to come to him for rest. What makes it difficult for you to accept that invitation in the middle of a busy or stressful season? 3. Think about the statement, “The pace of your life is shaping the condition of your soul.” What priorities or daily habits might need to change to help you follow the pace of Jesus? 4. In his marathon story, Steve described how unexpected pain disrupted his plans, even though he had prepared well. How have your spiritual practices helped you navigate unexpected challenges, and where might you need to build greater trust in God? 5. The message ended with four simple words: come, name, release, and receive. What anxiety, fear, or burden are you carrying right now that you need to name and release to Jesus so you can receive his peace?     ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about? What changes when you know you belong in God’s family? /// Red Letters: Part 2

How have your experiences with an earthly father shaped the way you picture God as Father, and where might that picture need to be corrected? 2. Pastor Doug described four implications of God as Father (intimacy, sovereignty, security, and belonging). Which one is easiest for you to believe, and which one is hardest to trust? 3. Read Matthew 6:9 and consider the words “our Father.” What do those two words reveal about both your relationship with God and your relationship with other believers? 4. The message described even loving families as complicated and messy. How does the idea of having a perfect Father change the way you think about the imperfections in your own family? 5. Consider the challenge to ask God to replace a faulty or skewed view of fatherhood with the truth of who He is. What belief about God might you need to bring honestly to Him this week?     ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about? The After Sermon /// What does Jesus mean when he calls God “Father”?

Welcome to The After Sermon by Plum Creek Church. This bite-sized discussion is where we get to sit down with our communicators and ask a few follow up questions connected to the weekend message, unpack it on a deeper level, and explore how it all relates to our journey of following Jesus more fully. What comes to mind when you hear God described as “Father”? For many of us, that word carries a lifetime of experiences—some good, some painful, and most complicated. But what if our experience with our fathers isn’t supposed to define how we see God? What if Jesus invites us to start with God and allow him to redefine what “Father” means? Daniel sits down with Michele Cushatt to unpack Jesus’ words, “Our Father,” the significance those words carried in the first century, and the surprising picture of Jesus as the firstborn Son who came not to conquer with a sword, but to lay down his life. Together, they explore what it means to know God through intimacy, sovereignty, security, and belonging—and what changes when we begin to see ourselves as his beloved children. Who is God really? /// Red Letters: Part 1

Michele asked, “Who is God really?” How has your own experience with a father or father figure shaped the way you picture God? 2. Read Matthew 6:9. What stands out to you about Jesus beginning the prayer with the words “Our Father,” and what does that reveal about how he wants us to relate to God? 3. Consider the description of God as a Father who offers intimacy, sovereignty, security, and belonging. Which of those is easiest for you to believe, and which is hardest? 4. Michele shared that even a complicated and imperfect family can have a perfect Father. How does that idea affect the way you think about your place in God’s family and your relationship with other people in it? 5. This week, we were challenged to ask God to replace our distorted ideas about fatherhood with a clearer understanding of who he really is. What belief about God might you need to reconsider or bring honestly to him?     ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about? Are you comfortable but still empty? /// The Way: Part 4

When you find yourself in an in between season and cannot hear the beat, how do you usually respond, and what would it look like to depend more intentionally on the risen Christ? 2. Reflect on Keith Norman’s statement that “transitions often breed a comfortability that yields futility,” and consider where comfort might be keeping you from something God is asking you to do. 3. What is one “little thing” you already know Jesus is asking you to do differently, and what has made simple obedience difficult? 4. Read John 21:4 to 13 and discuss what Jesus providing breakfast for the disciples reveals about his care for both ordinary needs and deeper spiritual needs. 5. The message challenged us to notice the “regular stuff” God provides, so identify a few ordinary gifts in your life that you may have stopped recognizing with gratitude.     ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about?
