Episode 94: Mind Your Own Business

Mind Your Own Business Tea Time with Shayleigh & Amber Some of the biggest drains on our energy aren't the obvious ones. They're the conversations we keep replaying in our heads. The decisions that aren't ours to make. The urge to fix, control, rescue, predict, or protect everyone around us. In this episode, we wander through intuition, timelines, spirituality, law of attraction, aging dogs, fear, codependency, and why "mind your own business" might be one of the deepest healing practices there is. Along the way, we explore something most of us do without realizing it. We leave our own lives to manage someone else's. Whether that's giving unsolicited advice, carrying responsibility that isn't ours, or trying to predict every possible outcome before making a decision, it all pulls us away from the only place we actually have influence. Our own lives. This conversation also dives into trusting yourself when there isn't a perfect answer, navigating difficult decisions with aging animals, allowing emotions without making them mean something is wrong, and remembering that this human experience is temporary. Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is stop trying to escape life and actually live it. In this episode we explore Why feeling "behind" creates unnecessary resistance. Is intuition really intuition... or something else? The difference between inner knowing and attachment to an outcome. Why uncertainty doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. Learning to ask better questions instead of demanding immediate answers. The surprising lesson about minding your own business. How giving advice can sometimes become a way of avoiding our own work. The beauty of staying present inside your human experience instead of constantly searching for something bigger. Why every emotion has a purpose. Making impossible decisions for the animals we love. Fear, guilt, responsibility, and learning to trust yourself. Why everything, including the hard seasons, is temporary. Questions to reflect on → Where am I spending energy trying to manage someone else's life instead of my own? → Is this actually my responsibility, or am I trying to control uncertainty? → What would happen if I stopped fighting this season and simply let myself be in it? → When I say I'm following my intuition, am I listening... or am I attached to an outcome? → What part of my life am I trying to rush through because I believe I'm behind? → Where am I searching for magic outside myself instead of noticing what's already here? → What decision am I trying to force before I actually feel clear? → How would my relationships change if I truly minded my own business? → What emotions have I been trying to avoid instead of allowing? → If everything is temporary, what would I enjoy more today? Favorite takeaway "Sometimes the most freeing thing you can do is stop trying to control everyone else's experience... and come home to your own." Episode 93: If You Only Knew

    # Episode 93: If You Only Knew Have you ever caught yourself saying... *"If I only knew then what I know now..."* Whether it's a horse, a relationship, or a major life decision, hindsight has a way of making us believe we would have chosen differently. But what if the lesson wasn't a mistake? What if it was exactly what you came here to learn? In this episode, Amber and Shayleigh explore why we spend so much time trying to avoid discomfort, only to discover that our greatest growth often comes from the very experiences we would have tried to escape. The conversation weaves through horse ownership, nervous system regulation, preparation, behavior, and the surprising ways our animals become our greatest teachers. If you've ever questioned your horse, your choices, or yourself, this conversation will challenge you to see all three through a completely different lens. In This Episode **00:00** If you knew then what you know now, would you still choose the same horse? **01:15** Why we judge breeds, colors, health risks, and "perfect" horses before we ever know the individual. **03:00** Amber shares why clients almost always end up choosing the horse they were emotionally drawn to, even when logic says otherwise. **04:30** Smarty's story. The horse who completely changed Amber's plans and taught her the lesson she actually needed instead of the one she wanted. **08:45** Are we really choosing horses... or are we choosing the lessons they bring? **11:30** Why every horse comes with challenges, regardless of breed or background. **14:00** Familiar pain versus unfamiliar possibility, and how the brain often chooses what feels predictable. **18:00** Herd attachment isn't bad behavior. It's normal horse behavior. **21:30** Why preparing for a show isn't the same as preparing your horse's nervous system. **23:00** The difference between desensitizing a horse and building nervous system capacity. **24:30** Amber explains how small, manageable moments of stress followed by regulation build confidence instead of fear. **27:30** Prediction errors, dopamine, curiosity, and why positive experiences gradually overwrite fear responses. **31:00** Everyday experiences we rarely prepare horses for, from the farrier to injections, standing tied, and being separated from friends. **33:00** Why backing off at the right moment does **not** reinforce fear. **34:00** The subtle signs of shutdown most people completely miss. **35:30** Compliance isn't the same thing as relaxation. **38:00** Why every horse needs something different during a pause. **41:00** What lead ropes, pressure, and restraint may actually represent from the horse's perspective. **45:00** Supporting your horse's instincts instead of fighting against them. **50:00** Practical ways to recognize thresholds, increase confidence, and become a more regulated partner. Questions to Go Deeper About Your Horse * Does my horse tend to freeze, flee, fight, fawn, or become curious when they're unsure? * Am I asking my horse to perform... or preparing them to feel safe enough to perform? * What situations consistently push my horse close to their threshold? * What signs tell me my horse is becoming overwhelmed before their behavior changes? * Where could I slow down just enough for my horse to process instead of simply comply? About Yourself * Where in my own life have I said, "If I only knew then what I know now"? * Would I actually choose differently... or would I choose the same lesson because it helped shape who I am today? * Am I trying to avoid discomfort, or build my own capacity to move through it? * Where do I become so focused on the outcome that I stop noticing what's happening in the present moment? * What would change if I became just as curious about myself as I am about my horse? Nutmeg's Take Dear Nuts, Apparently humans spend a whole lot of time trying to avoid hard lessons. Then they accidentally buy the exact horse that delivers every single one. Funny how that works. This episode reminded me that confidence isn't built by never feeling stressed. It's built by learning that you can feel something uncomfortable... and come back down the other side. Maybe that's true for horses. Maybe it's true for us, too. So this week, practice the pause. Notice your horse before you react. Notice yourself before you react. Turns out the biggest breakthroughs don't usually happen because someone pushed harder. They happen because someone slowed down enough to listen. Love, Nutmeg 🐿️ Favorite Quotes * "Your job isn't just to prepare your horse for the task. It's to prepare their nervous system for the experience." * "Confidence isn't created by avoiding stress. It's created by learning how to recover from it." * "Compliance and relaxation are not the same thing." * "Sometimes the horse you thought wasn't right for you ends up teaching you exactly what you needed to learn." * "The pause isn't giving up. The pause is often where learning begins."

Episode 92: Do Animals Name Us?

Do Animals Have Names for Us? Animal Communication, Horse Psychology & The Energy Behind Names Have you ever wondered if your horse has a name for you? Do animals think about us the same way we think about them? In this Tea Time conversation, Amber and Shayleigh explore the fascinating world of animal communication, horse psychology, identity, energy, and the deeper meaning behind names. What started as a simple question quickly turned into a discussion about how animals perceive humans, whether names matter in the animal world, and why horses may be responding to far more than the words we use. Together they unpack the relationship between names, labels, energy, intention, identity, horse behavior, and the powerful ways horses experience us beyond language. In This Episode → Do animals have names for their humans? → How horses and animals may perceive people through energy rather than words → Animal communication and receiving messages through feelings, visuals, and knowing → Why humans are attached to names, labels, and identity → The connection between names and personal identity → Spirit guides, energetic roles, and the concept of naming in non-physical realms → Why some horses seem deeply connected to their names while others collect endless nicknames → Horse behavior, awareness, and how horses constantly read human emotions → The role of intention versus words in horse training → Why vocal cues often help humans more than horses → Situational awareness and how horses assess safety in their environment → The energetic relationship between horses and humans → How nicknames evolve as relationships deepen → Why animals may experience us as a feeling rather than a fixed identity Key Takeaways Horses and animals may not experience humans through names the way we do. Instead, they may connect with our energy, emotions, intentions, and the unique feeling of our relationship. This conversation explores the possibility that names are a human tool for creating certainty and identity, while animals operate from a more fluid awareness of the present moment. Whether you're interested in animal communication, horse behavior, personal growth, spirituality, nervous system awareness, or creating a deeper connection with your horse, this episode offers thought-provoking perspectives that challenge the way we think about relationships across species. Questions to Explore → If your horse could describe you without using your name, what would they say? → What energy are you bringing into the barn each day? → How much of your identity is attached to labels, titles, and roles? → Do your animals respond more to your words or your intention? → What would change if you experienced yourself beyond the name you've been given? Episode 91: Year of the Whale

Year of the Horse or Year of the Whale? Flow, creative energy, and what happens when you stop suppressing yourself In this episode, Amber and Shayleigh wander through a really honest conversation about creativity, nervous system patterns, flow, self-suppression, and what it looks like to actually pay attention to how life feels. What starts as a playful conversation about whether 2026 is the Year of the Horse or the unofficial Year of the Whaleturns into something deeper. They explore the pressure people put on themselves to be more powerful, more productive, more “on it,” and how sometimes what actually creates movement is not pushing harder, but allowing more flow. They talk about creative energy, the cost of suppressing what wants to come through, the way life gets heavier when we ignore the small practices that make us feel like ourselves, and how easy it is to get pulled into chaos, negativity, and collective stress if we are not intentional. This episode also gives a behind-the-scenes look at what is unfolding for Shayleigh creatively right now through art, symbols, and light language, along with how that energy is beginning to shape Elevate, their new small-group container. And for Tea House members, there is a special announcement at the end. In this episode, we talk about: Why “Year of the Whale” became the vibe for 2026 The difference between force and flow Tiny practices that shift your whole energy What happens when you stay committed to how you feel How creative suppression can show up as fatigue Why creativity is not just painting or drawing The importance of finding your version of art How nervous systems get pulled back into old patterns Support, accountability, and why it is hard to shift alone A deeper look at what is unfolding inside Elevate A scholarship opportunity for one Tea House member   Resources Mentioned Elevate Program https://www.amberlydic.com/elevate2026 Tea House Membership https://www.amberlydic.com/membership Tea House Scholarship Details Tea House members can check the Facebook group and email for details on how to apply.

    Episode 90: Desperately Speaking...

Episode Summary This episode starts with Shayleigh naming something that a lot of people quietly live in, asking for answers and then doubting their intuition the second the answer feels too hard to hold. She talks about what happens when you are told not to intervene, when you are not the right messenger for someone, and why some truths are not meant to be delivered by you. Amber and Shayleigh pull that thread into a bigger conversation about the fantasy of “leveling up,” the idea that growth means life gets easier, cleaner, and more certain. They talk about how empowering people is not about giving them the answer, it is about helping them find their own. The second half goes deep into desperation. Shayleigh shares a healing experience that took her back into the womb, where she suddenly felt desperation as a real embodied state, not an idea. Amber shares her own relationship with desperation, shaped early by loss, and how that has created a strange gift, being able to be with someone’s intensity without getting pulled under by it. Then, in divine comedic timing, the thunderstorm takes Amber out mid-call and Shayleigh wraps it up solo. Quick Takeaways ↠ Do not ask questions you are not ready to hear the answer to ↠ Sometimes “I can’t intervene” is the most honest guidance ↠ Empowerment is not dependency, it is internal leadership ↠ Your questions shape what your brain goes looking for ↠ Desperation can feel like a victim state, until it becomes a bridge to empathy ↠ Growth does not mean ease forever, it means capacity   Questions Intuition and truth ↠ What question am I asking right now that I am secretly hoping has a certain answer? ↠ If my intuition gave me the honest answer, what part of me would feel threatened by it? ↠ Do I actually not trust my intuition, or do I not want to carry what it is showing me? Empowerment versus dependency ↠ Where do I want someone else to be the authority so I do not have to be? ↠ What do I keep outsourcing that is actually my responsibility to choose? ↠ If I stopped asking for answers and started asking better questions, what would I ask instead? Leveling up myths ↠ Where did I learn the idea that growth means life should get easier? ↠ If growth is capacity, not comfort, what would capacity look like in my life right now? ↠ What would it mean to be in the middle of a transition without needing it to make sense yet? Desperation and nervous system ↠ What does desperation feel like in my body, if I tell the truth? ↠ Do I judge desperation in others because I do not understand it, or because I am afraid of it? ↠ When I feel desperate, what do I think I need someone else to take from me? Relationship patterns ↠ What energy do I experience as invasive, and why? ↠ Where do I ask someone to change my life, without realizing I am asking? ↠ What agreement could I make with one person in my life to help me catch my negative loops? Practical Integration ↠ Pick one repeating question you ask when you are spiraling (like “What is wrong with me?”) ↠ Rewrite it into a question that creates power (example: “What is my nervous system asking for right now?”) ↠ Ask it daily for a week, and notice what your brain starts feeding you instead Nutmeg’s Corner Nutmeg would like to remind you, lovingly, that if you ask the universe for the truth and then get mad when it answers, that is a you problem, not a universe problem. Stay curious, not dramatic. Or at least be funny if you are going to be dramatic. Episode 89: Crossing The Line

Amber opens the episode in full awkward honesty, and somehow it works perfectly for what we are talking about. This episode is about desire, but not the surface level kind. We are talking about the space desire is born from, the space where your needs get met, and how sometimes that space looks like… nothing. Less input. Less talking. Less touching. Less trying. For you and for your horse. We go into how “doing less” can feel like abandonment or rejection if your nervous system is wired for connection to look like constant engagement. That shows up when your horse walks away, when a person needs space, or when you feel guilty for needing quiet. We talk about attachment patterns, anxious energy, and how “need need need” can unintentionally create pressure that makes the other side want to back up. We also talk about the other side of it, where we shrink down so much that we disappear, and the horse or the relationship starts poking at you because it is trying to call you back into your own power. There’s a whole thread around overstimulation that starts with a microphone issue and turns into a real conversation about how one tiny thing can hijack attention, in humans and horses. We connect that to the freeze response, compliance, and how often we don’t ask for what we need in the moment. We also talk about how the story we are carrying changes what our horse can do with us. If you believe you are imposing, your ask lands like guilt. If you believe you are allowed to want what you want, your ask lands like clarity. We end by tying it into Manifesting Magic, and the idea that under every complaint is a desire, and learning to go underneath the complaint is one of the biggest ways to shift your life, your relationships, and what your animal can co create with you. Relief, panic, guilt, freedom, something else? • When my horse walks away, what story do I tell myself immediately? • Where in my life do I shrink down so I can be liked, so I can be easy, so I do not rock the boat? • Where in my life do I get “softer” when what is actually needed is clarity? • If I could ask for what I need in real time, what would I say first, in one sentence? • Where am I worried about being perceived as needy, intense, or too much, and how is that blocking connection? • Is my horse showing me overstimulation, or are they calling me into more presence and personal power? • What is one desire underneath a complaint I have right now (with my horse or with a person)? • What would it look like to speak that desire without blaming anyone for it? ⸻ Share, Rate, and Review If you’re listening or watching and this episode hit, please share it with someone who needs this conversation.
