The Emperor Tarot Card: Boundaries, Safety & Reclaiming Your Power

What does it mean to become a safe place for yourself? This week on It's Giving Mystical, we're exploring The Emperor, card IV of the Major Arcana, and the archetype of the divine masculine. The Emperor is the energy of structure, stability, boundaries, responsibility, and protection. But he's also an archetype with a complicated history. In a world shaped by patriarchy, control, and domination, how do we reclaim the healthy masculine without reproducing the systems that have harmed us? We explore: The Emperor as an aspect of self, not simply a man or authority figure in your life The difference between healthy masculine protection and corrupted masculine control Boundaries, personal sovereignty, and the territory you're responsible for tending Why internal safety is the foundation for freedom, creativity, and abundance The relationship between The Empress and The Emperor How to recognize and reclaim the benevolent protector within yourself The courage to stand up for yourself and say, "Thou shall not pass." We also talk about how tarot cards can represent multiple layers of experience—your own psyche, the people around you, and the collective systems we inhabit. A question for the week: Where is your boundary line? What needs protection, repair, or a little more room to grow? This is part of our ongoing journey through the 78 cards of the tarot, exploring tarot as a living art, a language of archetypes, and a tool for personal transformation. The Empress Tarot Card Meaning: Pleasure, Abundance & the Beauty of Being Here

This week, we arrive at The Empress… card number three of the Major Arcana and the embodiment of creativity, pleasure, abundance, beauty, and life itself. Where the High Priestess draws us toward silence and the unseen, the Empress brings us fully back into the earthly world: into the body, nature, sensuality, desire, creativity, and the ceaseless generative force of being alive. We explore the Empress as Mother Earth, fertile goddess, creator and receiver and the powerful idea that pleasure, beauty, art, and enjoyment aren't frivolous extras. They're part of the gift of being human. We also look at the shadow of the Empress: scarcity, contraction, overindulgence, and the places where we stop ourselves from receiving or enjoying what is already here. Your practice this week: notice when something feels good — a beautiful meal, laughter, touch, sunlight, music, a moment in nature — and see if you can stay with the pleasure for one breath longer. What happens when you don't rush away from what feels good? The Empress might say: this is why you're here. ✨ In this episode:The Empress tarot card meaning • pleasure and abundance • feminine energy • creativity and fertility • Venus and beauty • erotic energy and life force • receiving • scarcity and contraction • the Empress reversed • embodiment • tarot as a spiritual practice If you're walking through the Major Arcana with me, tell me: Where is the Empress showing up in your life this week?

The High Priestess Tarot Card Meaning: Intuition, Mystery & What Is Sacred

We continue our journey through the Major Arcana with The High Priestess... card number two in the tarot. If The Magician is the vertical — the channel between spirit and body, desire and creation — The High Priestess goes wide. She is the field. The void. The mystery. The part of us that stays connected to something much larger than ourselves. This week, we explore the High Priestess as oracle, gatekeeper, and keeper of the sacred and what happens when we stop needing everything to make logical sense. We talk about: ✦ intuition, dreams, signs + synchronicities✦ the High Priestess as oracle and keeper of the mystery✦ sacredness, devotion + the inner temple✦ the Magician and High Priestess as complementary energies✦ learning to perceive what you cannot prove✦ silence, nonlinear knowing + direct revelation✦ the shadow of the High Priestess: isolation, spiritual bypassing + leaving the body behind✦ finding the sacred inside ordinary life And perhaps the question to carry with you this week: Where have I let the mystery fall away? What happens when you stop insisting that you already know what something means (or where it's going) and allow the world to speak back? Try inviting the High Priestess into your week: Show me what I need to see. Then watch what comes. ✨ October Field Notes are available as a one-off or monthly subscription, with a tarot card tucked into each October mailing. ✨ Private sessions are opening again in October. ✨ The next Shaman School cycle begins September 2027, with more details coming soon. Explore everything at Giving Mystical. If you're traveling through the Major Arcana with me, tell me: Do you feel more at home with The Magician or The High Priestess?

October 2026 Tarot Forecast: Let It Ride | Wheel of Fortune + Judgment

October has one very clear message: no more bets. Let it ride. After September’s clarifying energy, October brings the Wheel of Fortune and Judgment... two Major Arcana cards of fate, revelation, divine timing, and conditions changing beyond our control. This isn’t a month to rush in and fill the space, force an answer, begin something simply because you’re uncomfortable waiting, or try to manage what happens next. You’ve placed your bets. The wheel is spinning. In this month’s tarot forecast, we explore: ✦ Wheel of Fortune + Judgment as October’s guiding cards✦ why October feels like a month of “before and after”✦ Venus + Mercury retrograde and the return of unfinished threads✦ truth, compassion, and the King of Swords✦ what happens when the conditions around us change✦ allowing revelation instead of forcing resolution✦ stability, nourishment, and tending yourself while the wheel turns✦ a tarot + plant medicine reading for every zodiac sign There is a lot moving this month but that doesn’t mean you need to be the one moving it. Follow what opens. Respond to what arrives. Tell the truth. Keep your heart in the conversation. And wherever you can, give yourself permission to do less. October knows what it’s doing. Let it ride. ✨ Field Notes: October’s Field Note, A Time of Before and After, explores these energies through art, ritual, and reflection. A few are still available at givingmystical.com. 🃏 And Walk Through the Tarot continues this month as we make our way through the Major Arcana, one card at a time. If something in this reading lands for you, come tell me. I’d especially love to know: Where in your life are you being asked to stop placing bets and simply watch what happens next?

The Magician Tarot Card Meaning: Power, Agency + Creation

What if the Magician isn’t simply a card about manifestation—but a reminder of just how much agency you actually have? In this episode of It’s Giving Mystical, we continue our journey through the tarot with The Magician: Card I of the Major Arcana. The Fool asked us to step into the unknown. The Magician says: Okay. Now you’re here. What are you going to do with what you’ve been given? We explore the Magician as the archetype of focused power, creation, agency and the meeting place between the spiritual and material worlds. This is the energy of as above, so below—the understanding that your thoughts, words, emotions, energy and actions all participate in creating your experience. And perhaps more interestingly: why are there places in your life where you feel completely capable of creating change…and others where you feel powerless? We get into: • the numerology and energetic meaning of One• the Magician as manifestation, agency and creative power• the four tools on the Magician’s table• “as above, so below” and the meeting of spirit + matter• where you may be underestimating your own power• the difference between focused energy and scattered energy• the Magician reversed and giving your power away• why your unique way of experiencing the world matters• and, somehow, the very important question of what breed of dog you are currently living as This week, notice: Where do I already feel powerful, clear and capable? And where have I decided I have less agency than I actually do? The Magician reminds us: you are not incidental to the creation of your life. You are the one. ✨ If you’re following this tarot series, send me your questions or leave a comment. I’m building this as a living library of the tarot, and I’d love to know what you want to explore as we go. Next up: The High Priestess.

The Fool Tarot Card Meaning: New Beginnings, Pure Potential + Learning to Not Know

We’re beginning at the beginning. In this new series of It’s Giving Mystical, I’m walking through the tarot card by card—not to give you another set of meanings to memorize, but to help you build your own living relationship with the deck. And we begin with The Fool: card zero of the Major Arcana. The Fool is pure potential. The beginning before we know what the beginning will become. The leap, the unknown, the horizon line—and the strange vulnerability of admitting: I actually don’t know what I’m doing. In this episode, we explore The Fool through numerology, symbolism, embodiment and lived experience: the relationship between zero and 22, the tension between our infinite nature and our very finite human bodies, our fear of looking foolish, trickster energy, play, new beginnings, spiritual yearning and the invitation to move toward what is calling us before we completely understand it. We also talk about what The Fool may be revealing when it appears in a tarot reading: Where has the role you’ve been playing become too heavy? Where are you being called toward something new? Where has wonder disappeared? And what might happen if you allowed yourself not to know yet? WORK WITH THE TAROT ALONGSIDE ME I created my Tarot Workbook to accompany this kind of exploration. You can use it as we move through the deck to record your own observations, questions, symbols and direct revelations with each card. → Download the Tarot Workbook: https://www.givingmystical.com/shop-1/p/the-tarot-workbook And bring your questions into this series. If there’s something about The Fool I didn’t cover—or something you want to explore more deeply—leave a comment or send me a DM. I want this to be living work we build together. Next up: The Magician. In this episode:The Fool tarot card meaning • Major Arcana • tarot for beginners • how to read tarot intuitively • tarot symbolism • tarot numerology • new beginnings • card zero • The Fool in a tarot reading • learning tarot • intuitive tarot reading • spiritual meaning of The Fool

Learning Tarot: 78 Cards for the Human Experience

Welcome to a new era of It’s Giving Mystical. Today we begin a new series: a card-by-card journey through the tarot. Before we meet The Fool next week and begin our walk through the Major Arcana, I want to start with the foundation: What is tarot, really? How does it work? And how can you learn to trust your own relationship with the cards? In this episode, I’m sharing the way I’ve come to understand tarot after a lifetime of working with it—not as a fortune-telling device or something reserved for people with special psychic gifts, but as a tool of direct revelation. Tarot gives us 78 images for the human experience: love, grief, desire, power, fear, transformation, beginnings, endings, creativity, confusion, sovereignty, surrender. There are no “good” cards or “bad” cards. There are simply places in the human story—and invitations to notice what they awaken in you. We talk about: • What tarot is and how a 78-card tarot deck is structured• The Major Arcana vs. the Minor Arcana• Why I recommend learning with the Rider-Waite tarot deck• Archetypes, numerology and the four tarot suits• Why anyone can learn to read tarot• Intuitive tarot vs. traditional tarot meanings• Why your reaction to a card is part of the reading• Tarot as a mirror, pattern disruptor and spiritual companion• Why there are no “bad” tarot cards• The power dynamic involved in having someone else read your cards• How to sit with a card long enough for something deeper to reveal itself• A simple exercise for choosing your personal card for our journey together You do not have to memorize 78 meanings. You do not have to be psychic. You do not have to do tarot “right.” You can look. Notice. Get curious. Stay a little longer. Over the coming weeks, we’ll walk through the entire tarot deck together, beginning next week with The Fool. Use these episodes to learn tarot, deepen an existing tarot practice, journal alongside the cards—or simply let each card become a companion for the week ahead. And I want this series to become a conversation. What do you want to know about tarot? Which cards confuse you, scare you, fascinate you or refuse to leave you alone? What would you like me to cover as we move through the deck? Send me your questions or leave them in the comments wherever you’re listening. I’ll be reading them and letting your curiosity help shape where we go. If you know someone who has always wanted to understand tarot but didn’t know where to begin, send them this episode. This is a beautiful place to start. Next week: The Fool. Welcome to the journey.

The Fool: Trusting What Comes Next

Sometimes the next chapter begins before we understand where it’s taking us. This week marks the end of one version of It’s Giving Mystical—and the beginning of something new. As I prepare to shift away from our traditional weekly tarot readings and begin walking through the Tarot card by card, I pulled one final card for the road we’ve been traveling together. First, The Sun jumped from the deck. And then, after thinking that the only sign more ridiculously perfect would be The Fool…I pulled The Fool. Of course I did. So this week, we’re talking about what happens when life begins pressurizing us toward change before our conscious minds understand what that change is asking of us. We talk about The Fool, divine protection, following wonder instead of certainty, the strange intelligence of instinct—and the possibility that you do not need to know where the road leads in order to take the next step. I also share a story about reclaiming my mother’s old room as a healing and creative space, repairing its cracked mirrors with gold, and finding a long-lost kintsugi kit she gave me years ago exactly where I needed it to be. Maybe the cracks aren’t asking to disappear. Maybe they’re becoming part of the beauty. And maybe the path ahead isn’t asking you to figure it out. Maybe it’s asking you to follow the sun. In this episode: Why It’s Giving Mystical is changingThe pressure that can precede a new chapterThe Sun + The Fool and an extraordinary tarot synchronicityWhy The Fool asks us to move without knowingTrusting instinct when the conscious mind can’t make sense of thingsKintsugi, cracked mirrors, grief and making something beautiful from what has been brokenFollowing wonder, awe and the “destiny winds”Giving your mind permission to catch up with what your heart already knows Next week, we begin with my Tarot 101—how I think about the cards, how I approach a tarot practice, and the philosophy that will guide us as we begin our new journey through the deck. Then: we walk. One card at a time. 🤍
