Shayne & Tiffany Anderson: How Interventions Really Work

In this episode of Finding New Waters, host B. Reeves and CEO Justin McClendon sit down with Shayne and Tiffany Anderson, co-owners of Shift Recovery Services, for an in-depth conversation on what it truly takes to help an addict—and their family—break free from the cycle of addiction. Shayne shares his unique journey from Hollywood actor and high-end nightclub manager to becoming a sober companion with over 10,000 hours of experience in crisis situations. Tiffany, a licensed therapist, breaks down the psychological side of addiction, explaining why families often struggle with enmeshment, boundaries, and understanding that addiction is a family disease. Together, they reveal how Shift Recovery approaches interventions as a compassionate "invitation to change," how they deploy ex-CIA and FBI operatives to locate missing loved ones around the globe, and why the real work of recovery only begins after a client leaves treatment. Whether you have a loved one in active addiction, work in the treatment field, or are looking to understand the difference between just getting sober and learning how to live sober, this episode provides an insider's look at the full landscape of intervention, clinical care, and long-term sustainability. Chris Martinez on Teen Addiction, Resilience, and the Pressures Facing Young Men

In this episode of Finding New Waters, B. Reeves and Justin McClendon sit down with Chris Martinez of Resilience Recovery Resources in West Palm Beach, Florida, for a conversation about adolescent recovery, young adult development, family systems, academics, social media, music, and the rapidly changing pressures facing young men today. Chris shares his own recovery journey and how he entered the behavioral health field almost by accident. After getting sober at 28, he was learning how to become financially independent for the first time in his life — paying for sober living, paying his own cell phone bill, and working on a moving truck. An opportunity to work overnight shifts at a sober living home for $12 an hour eventually became the beginning of a career in behavioral health. Chris talks about why running a marathon during his first year of recovery became so meaningful, how learning to live up to his word changed him, and why committing to that first sober living job for one full year ultimately helped him discover what he wanted to do with his life. The conversation then explores the population Resilience serves: adolescent and young adult men. Chris explains why turning 18 does not suddenly create emotional or developmental adulthood, how Resilience transitions clients between adolescent and young adult tracks, and why treatment must be individualized around what each young person is actually capable of doing. Chris also breaks down the academic component of treatment, including high school equivalency, virtual schooling, advanced courses, and helping young people work through the shame of falling behind. Rather than forcing kids into someone else's expectations, Chris explains why the goal is to understand the barriers that brought them into treatment and help them create realistic goals they can actually achieve. Chris's path into behavioral health grew directly out of his own recovery experience. He got sober in 2012 at age 28 after years in which drugs and alcohol had become what he describes as his “first career.” Early recovery meant learning how to become self-sustaining. Chris worked on a moving truck after treatment before accepting an overnight position at a sober living home in Santa Monica for $12 an hour. He committed to staying in the job for a year, returned to school, began taking on new responsibilities, and ultimately discovered that helping people in recovery was the career he wanted to pursue. #FindingNewWatersPodcast #FindingNewWaters #NewWatersRecovery #ChrisMartinez #ResilienceRecovery #TeenRecovery #YoungAdultRecovery #TeenMentalHealth #AdolescentMentalHealth #AddictionRecovery #TeenAddiction #FamilyRecovery #YouthMentalHealth #SocialMedia #Recovery Connect with Resilience Recovery Resources: Website: https://resiliencerecoveryresources.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/resiliencerecovery Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/1Hpm6br44D/?mibextid=wwXIfr 🎙️ Watch & Listen Website: www.findingnewwaters.com Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4NOV2g85KExFWU5mTz5Gjw Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/finding-new-waters/id1684075608 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfAIXtiOgy1XFcwAduXgXw YouTube Music: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuJOc6yLcjibGGAKgLYPCN47etJCY89mn

Stefan Bate on Why Treatment Isn’t Recovery

In this episode of Finding New Waters, B. Reeves sits down with Stefan Bate, partner and co-CEO of Jaywalker Lodge in Carbondale, Colorado, for a powerful conversation about addiction, surrender, treatment, community, and what long-term recovery actually looks like. Stefan shares his own journey from being labeled a “chronic relapsor” and “treatment resistant alcoholic” after multiple treatment attempts to eventually finding lasting recovery at Jaywalker Lodge. He explains why he could get an “A in treatment” but still had no idea how to live in recovery — and why the four-month Jaywalker model gave him something traditional 28-day treatment had not: time to actually practice living sober in the real world. The conversation explores one of Stefan’s strongest beliefs: “you get sober in treatment, but you find recovery in community.” Stefan explains why treatment alone is not enough, why consequence-based motivation eventually burns out, and why joy, relationships, purpose, connection, and a meaningful life are not side effects of recovery — “they are the medicine.” Stefan also discusses surrender, hopelessness, why intelligent and successful people often try to outthink addiction, the pressure men feel to immediately rebuild their careers after treatment, and why slowing down can actually create a stronger foundation for lifelong recovery. The episode closes with the newly launched Jaywalker Foundation and its mission to create greater access to extended recovery care for people who need programs like Jaywalker but do not have the financial resources to afford them.
