Level Up Grappling Podcast

I’ve been training the art of jiu-jitsu for about three months now. Our Coach recommended the podcast one day during class. I’ve listened to every episode multiple times. Coach Bryan and Ed are an awesome combo and do a great job on the show. I’ve taken several of the tips and tricks that Coach Bryan has mentioned and suggested to Level Up my game. Thanks guys for a great show!

The Australian guy is solid—he has legitimate accomplishments and clearly knows grappling. The other host is where the podcast loses me. He spends a lot of time criticizing BJJ and talking about the importance of competing, but I can’t find much evidence of his own competitive record, notable students, or footage of him actually grappling with high-level people. That makes the constant criticism of other competitors hard to take seriously. I’ll Zelle $100 right now to anyone who can produce legitimate footage of him competing or rolling with someone credible. From the outside, it comes across less like demonstrated expertise and more like association-based credibility and aura farming. If you’re going to publicly question everyone else’s credentials, your own résumé should be easy to verify.

I listen to the show because I like catch. Unfortunately, the show is always at least 1/4 complaining and whining about BJJ and trying to convince people about the superiority of catch. The rants are so petty that in one episode the main host was complaining about the name “kimura” instead of “double wrist lock”… no one cares about the name as long as it works. Is BJJ more popular than catch? Yes. Does anyone lose sleep over it other than this guy? No. Despite how much he hates BJJ, it lives rent free in his head. I have no doubt the guy could beat me up, but the talks about his skill superiority sounds like uncle Rico talking about throwing the football over the mountain. Outside of these rants the show is good, so I keep listening.
