The Allerdale Ramble: A 52 Mile Walking Adventure in England’s Lake District

“This trip reminded me that travel has a fabulous residual effect.”  Adriane Berg, Host of The Ageless Traveler What happens when you combine a 52-mile walking adventure through England’s spectacular Lake District, fascinating history, beautiful landscapes, and a group of fellow travelers? You get the Allerdale Ramble, an unforgettable journey that proves travel can do far more than take you somewhere. It can change you. In this episode of The Ageless Traveler: Adventure and Wellness for the 60+ Traveler, we discover the history of England’s remarkable walking culture…and we eat Victoria Sponge cake for my 78th birthday!  Along the way, we encounter the birthplace of beloved English poet William Wordsworth, and the charming historic villages of Cockermouth and Keswick. Walking trips build confidence, expand our sense of possibility, connect us with others, challenge us physically and mentally, and leave us with memories that last long after we return home. Champagne, France by Luxury Barge: The Slow Travel Adventure That Taught Me to Relax

"This is a kind of experience you get if you go specifically on a trip for your own well-being." Adriane What happens when a lifelong traveler who loves adventure, walking, exploring and moving discovers that sometimes the greatest adventure is slowing down? In this episode of The Ageless Traveler, I take you aboard a luxury hotel barge through the Champagne Valley of France with European Waterways. It is intimate, luxurious, delicious and surprisingly transformative. The hotel barges are small and intimate. The Kir Royale accommodates just eight passengers, creating an atmosphere where strangers quickly become friends. The barge moves slowly along the River Marne and French canals, giving travelers the opportunity to get off, walk, explore villages, ride bicycles and reconnect with the landscape. This is slow travel in the truest sense. Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, you have time to look out at the countryside, read a book, take a nap, have a conversation or simply do absolutely nothing. The itinerary includes visits to Champagne houses, vineyards, wine tastings and historic towns, along with exceptional French food. Meals are a major part of the experience, with fresh ingredients, regional cheeses, Champagne and wine, and menus tailored to individual dietary needs. Guests can accompany the chef to local markets and learn about the ingredients and food traditions of the region. For travelers who love culinary travel, wine tourism and cultural travel, Champagne offers plenty to discover. Adventure and Wellness for the 60+ Traveler Virginia is one of the most historically rich and food-forward destinations in the United States  and in this episode, I sit down with Kevin Clay, Communications Director at the Virginia Tourism Corporation, to unpack what makes the state a must-visit for history lovers, foodies, wine enthusiasts, and families alike. We start at the beginning with Jamestown, the site of the first permanent English settlement in America, before heading to Mount Vernon, George Washington's iconic estate, and Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's architectural masterpiece in Charlottesville. From there, we explore Colonial Williamsburg, the living-history capital of the region, and Staunton, a walkable Shenandoah Valley gem known for its theater scene and small-town charm.  Kevin highlights Virginia's growing food and wine culture (one of the fastest-growing in the U.S.), and the deep traditions of Southern cuisine that run through it all.
