    The modern practice of fasting in the Orthodox Church has become synonymous with following a vegan diet. Many Orthodox are unaware that there is a long tradition in the Orthodox Church of dry fasting, which is the practice of going for a period of time without food or water. This practice goes back to the earliest of times in the Church and has its origins prior to the day of Pentecost. Fasting as a spiritual practice is as old as humanity, and early Christians would have understood fasting as abstinence from both food and water. This kind of fasting is a discipline that the Saints practiced, even up to our own times, and one way modern Christians can join themselves to the experience of the Saints is to practice it themselves.Nathaniel has extensive experience with the practice of dry fasting, going as long as 9 days without food or water. He has not only incorporated dry fasting into his own spiritual practice but also teaches others how to do it. In this interview we will explore the tradition of dry fasting in the church as well as the practical aspect of how to do it.     On Relationships w/ Fr. Christian Siskos

    Fr. Christian is a priest in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America serving at St. Mark Orthodox Church in Bellevue Florida. After nearly becoming a monk on Mt. Athos, due to life circumstances, he ended coming back to the US and getting married. He observes that before you get married or become a monk everything in life is potentiality, but aftewards everything becomes actualized. Relationships between men and women have never been more strained than they are now. The percentage of adults who are married are at all time lows and divorce rates are sky high. In the church we also have the extremely difficult situation where the ratio of male to female converts is estimated to be about 9:1. Moreover, the economic situation makes it increasingly difficult for men to establish themselves financially to be able to support a family, which makes it even more difficult for them to find a spouse. What can be done? Fr. Christian has been counseling people in these difficult circumstances, and he will share with us some guidance that he has to give in this interview. Fr.
