Deep Dive 49 Chuck Long ( Iowa Hawkeye Football Great )

Send us Fan Mail Today's guest is about as close to Iowa football royalty as you can get without having a statue outside Kinnick Stadium.  Our guest is a former Hawkeye quarterback and became one of the most accomplished athletes in Iowa history, leading the Hawkeyes to three consecutive bowl games and made two Rose Bowl appearances.  He has the distinction of becoming the first college football player to appear in five bowl games. He finished his Iowa career as a two-time Heisman nominee and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.  He was selected 12th overall in the 1986 draft by the Detroit Lions and also went on to play for the Los Angeles Rams. And if that resume isn't enough, after he was done playing football, he started coaching and joined the Iowa staff, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Kansas, and even made a couple stops in the XFL. While he's at Oklahoma, he was part of Bob Stoop's national championship staff.  Today he's back in Iowa doing some pretty terrific work as a CEO and direct executive director of Iowa Sports Foundation. He oversees the Iowa Games, the Senior Games, the Adaptive Sports Iowa, and several other initiatives helping Iowa's can Iowans continue to compete in sports. So without further ado, the pride of Wheaton North High School and Iowa Hawkeye Great, Coach Chuck Long.  You can communicate with us at deepdivepod2025@gmail.com or be part of the Deep Dive Community in our Facebook Group Deep Dive Podcast https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1JGiMUC7bq/

Deep Dive 48 Wig & Pen Co-Owner Chris Querrey Iowa City Restaurant ( Dave Portnoy )

Send us Fan Mail Here in Eastern Iowa, there are restaurants you go to because you're hungry, and there are restaurants you go to because you want to be part of an experience. And today's guest is the co-owner of a place that checks both of those boxes. Since opening in 1988, the Wig and Pen has become a culinary landmark, a gathering place for coaches, community leaders, Hawkeye royalty, and even an occasional lowly podcast host.  The award-winning pizza might be what gets you in the door, but the entire menu is off-the-charts delicious. It's the kind of place you would take out-of-town guests and you'd want to show off a little bit and to make sure that they left with a full stomach. So pull up a chair, grab a slice, and join us as we dig into Iowa City's history, a little bit of Hawkeye tradition, and maybe even the secret to a deep dish crust. Our guest today is Chris Quarry, co-owner of the legendary Wig and Pen Pizza Pub. #daveportnoy #onebitechallenge #iowacity #hawkeyes #iowafootball #bestpizza #wigandpen  You can communicate with us at deepdivepod2025@gmail.com or be part of the Deep Dive Community in our Facebook Group Deep Dive Podcast https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1JGiMUC7bq/
