$100,000 TO SUPPORT THREE CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES? FOLLOW THE MONEY, LAGUNA BEACH! City Council candidate Ashley Cintas joins UNMASKED to discuss the $100,000 contribution from Regency Properties, L.P. and Affiliated Entities, associated with Laguna Beach’s Surf & Sand Resort. According to an official FPPC filing dated October 1, 2026, Regency Properties contributed $100,000 to the Laguna Beach Good Leadership Committee, an independent expenditure committee supporting three incumbent City Council candidates: Sue Kempf, Alex Rounaghi, and Mark Orgill. Laguna Beach is a small town of approximately 22,000 residents. Why does it take $100,000 to support three candidates in a community this size? We are asking questions that deserve a closer look 👀 What have these candidates done to attract this level of financial support?Have past decisions influenced this contribution? What, if anything, might these donors expect from the candidates they are supporting? And how can residents be confident that decisions at City Hall are being made in the best interests of the entire community?$100,000 is a significant amount of money in a local election. Voters deserve to understand who is funding these campaigns and the interests behind those contributions. AND WE’RE STILL FOLLOWING THE MONEY. Additional campaign finance disclosures may become available in the coming days. We’ll be watching to see who else, if anyone, has contributed. UNMASKED Podcast: This is Bigger Than the Efficiency Ordinance!

Last Thursday, Mayor Mark Orgill participated in his regular radio interview on The Voice of Laguna, with Ed as the host. On Friday, Chris and I joined Ed on The Voice of Laguna to examine the ordinance, the Mayor’s statements, and the discrepancies we identified. Here’s what every Laguna Beach resident needs to understand 👀 The Efficiency Ordinance was intended to streamline the design review process. But buried within its 77 pages are significant changes that raise questions about property rights, the approval process, and whether proper procedures were followed. According to the ordinance’s drafting history, certain provisions were added after Planning Commission review and were not returned to the Commission before City Council adopted them. And that’s where the real conversation begins. This isn’t about whether you support or oppose those provisions. It’s about whether the City followed the law when adopting them! When the City Council and its legal advisers approve ordinances without following required procedures, they risk exposing the City to litigation and potentially leaving Laguna Beach taxpayers responsible for the consequences. Residents deserve answers. Why were these provisions added? Who requested them? Why weren’t they returned to the Planning Commission? And what legal review took place before the Council voted? Two interviews. Two consecutive days. One ordinance. Questions that deserve answers. Chris and I discuss these issues with Ed on The Voice of Laguna, including the discrepancies we identified in Mayor Orgill’s regular Thursday interview. AND THERE’S MORE COMING. UNMASKED will be releasing our email correspondence with the Laguna Beach City Manager so residents can review the communications and draw their own conclusions. Transparency shouldn’t be optional. Read the ordinance. Watch both interviews. Ask questions. Stay informed. Stay tuned. More documents are coming.
