Rebecca Thomson | The Wine O'clock Woman

The Wine O’Clock Woman New episodes every Wednesday Monthly guest conversations This is a podcast for women who are drinking more than they'd like, but are unsure about going sober forever.  It names the pressure, the mental load, the constant responsibility, and the quiet ways women keep going while losing who they are. I’m Rebecca Thomson, Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist, former teacher, and mother. I support women to step back from alcohol long enough to break the pattern and decide whether it has a place in their lives at all. Alongside solo episodes, I host conversations with women who have changed their relationship with alcohol, and with specialists who speak to the realities behind it, menopause, motherhood, anxiety, grief, neurodiversity, social pressure, and high pressure careers. Drinking isn’t the problem. It’s the signal. This podcast is about understanding our relationship with alcohol better, and naming what is really going on underneath Wine O'Clock.

Episode 62 | Guest Conversation: Why You Keep Falling Back Into the Same Patterns with Julie Smith

Why do we keep falling back into old patterns, even when we really want things to change? Julie Smith joins me to talk about the subconscious beliefs behind our behaviour, why willpower only gets us so far, and what needs to change underneath the habit for things to start feeling different. More about Julie: Julie Smith is a multi-award-winning Confidence & Identity Specialist, bestselling author, speaker, and host of The Upgrade Show and Podcast.   After spending 35 years in the corporate world, Julie understands first-hand how even the most capable, high-achieving people can struggle beneath the surface with stress, anxiety, self-doubt, overthinking, imposter syndrome and patterns of self-sabotage.   Through her unique Identity Box Rewire Method™, Julie combines subconscious and superconscious work, conscious coaching and nervous system regulation to uncover and change the deeper beliefs and patterns that keep people stuck.   She has helped 100’s of high achievers create fast, lasting change, enabling them to feel calmer, more confident and more in control, so they can become the version of themselves they deserve to be. Julie is passionate about helping people understand that they are not broken. Episode 60 | Why You Remember the First Glass and Forget What Comes Next

You know the picture. A cold glass of wine at the end of the day. That first sip. Shoulders dropping. Ahhh. Funny how your brain doesn’t show you the whole evening quite so readily. In this episode, I’m talking about The Highlight Reel — why your brain can zoom in on the lovely bit of drinking while cropping out the rest. The head noise beforehand. The second and third glass. The rubbish sleep. The way you feel the next morning when you promise yourself, not tonight. We’ll look at why this happens, why morning-you and 6pm-you can seem to be looking at drinking completely differently, and one simple question that can help you widen the frame: What has my brain cropped out? You don’t need to convince yourself that drinking is awful. You might just need to widen the frame and see what your brain has cropped out. Episode 59 | Guest Conversation: Do You Still Need the Party Girl? with Rachel Teeling

If drinking has been part of fun, freedom and feeling like you for years, what happens when you start questioning it? In this conversation, I’m joined by Rachel Teeling to talk about the “party girl” we can be reluctant to let go of, why alcohol can become a comfort during heartbreak and loneliness, and Rachel’s idea of the “beer coat” — that borrowed confidence alcohol can give us. We also explore a bigger question: if alcohol stops being the thing that makes life feel fun, where do you find that part of yourself instead? Meet Rachel: Rachel Teeling is a certified Life and Relationship Coach and NLP Master Practitioner, also known as the Love Life Fixer. She helps women heal after painful relationships, rebuild their self-worth and create happier, healthier relationships with themselves and others. Through her coaching and Healing with Teeling podcast, Rachel combines professional tools with honest insight from her own experience of heartbreak, starting again and rebuilding her life. Episode 58 | I’m bored. I’ll have a drink.

“I drink because I’m bored.” It sounds like a perfectly reasonable explanation. But have you ever stopped to ask what having a drink actually changes? In this episode, I’m looking at what might really be going on in those evenings when you can’t settle, nothing seems to hold your attention and having a drink suddenly feels like the obvious answer. There’s one question I want you to ask yourself. You might be surprised by the answer. Episode 56 | Guest Conversation: The Tipping Point That Changed Everything with Polly Lovell

In this episode, I’m joined by Polly Lovell, who shares her personal journey with alcohol and the health scare that became her tipping point. We talk about what her relationship with alcohol looked like before that moment, what finally made her realise something needed to change, and what happened when she did. Polly also shares what life feels like on the other side now, and what she has gained from making a change she once might not have imagined making. An honest conversation about reaching your own tipping point, listening when something no longer feels right, and discovering what might be waiting on the other side. More about Polly: Polly Lovell is a former Director of Inclusion for an Educational Trust in the South West, with an international career spanning the UK and US. She spent many years in senior education roles, working in high pressure environments where responsibility was constant and expectations were high. Like many successful women, Polly’s drinking gradually escalated as a socially accepted way to manage stress, switch off and keep going, particularly through midlife and menopause. Despite her outward success, alcohol had quietly become a crutch. In 2021, aged 57, Polly decided to stop drinking, a turning point inspired by her daughter. She has never looked back. Her health, confidence, energy and sense of purpose have been transformed. After retiring from education, Polly retrained as a sober coach and is also a qualified NLP practitioner and menopause coach.  She now runs Sober Coach Polly, supporting midlife women navigating menopause, chronic stress, identity shifts and a complicated relationship with alcohol. Her message is simple: it is never too late to change your relationship with alcohol, reclaim your health and rewrite your next chapter.
