When Food Got Quiet, I Could Hear God

I hoped it would quiet my cravings and help me stop thinking about food all day. What I didn’t expect was how it would change my relationship with God. For years, food created constant static in my mind, what to eat, what not to eat, cravings, guilt, negotiations, and promises to start again tomorrow. God hadn’t moved or stopped speaking, but food noise was taking up so much space that I struggled to hear Him clearly. When I put food back in its proper place, the static began to clear. And suddenly, there was more room for stillness, surrender, and God. ✨ ✨ In this episode, you’ll learn: How food noise can take up more mental space than we realizeWhat happened spiritually when my cravings began to quietWhy food was never meant to be our comforter, reward, or escapeHow food boundaries removed the constant need to negotiate with myselfWhat changed when I started bringing uncomfortable emotions to God instead of foodWhy asking “What do I need right now?” can reveal what’s underneath the cravingHow putting food in its proper place can create more room for GodFood could distract me, but it couldn’t give me peace, wisdom, direction, identity, or lasting comfort. I had been asking food to do a job it was never capable of doing. Yes, I lost 100 pounds. Yes, my sugar cravings stopped. Yes, the food noise became quiet. But one of the greatest gifts was realizing how much more space I had for God when food stopped occupying a place it was never meant to hold. 🩷 Maybe the deeper question isn’t only, “How do I lose the weight?” Maybe it’s: How much space is food taking up in my mind, and what might I hear if some of that noise became quiet? 5 Lies Keeping Christian Women Stuck With Food

NEXT STEPS 🦋 Join the Life Unbinged 60-DAY SURRENDER CHALLENGE: lifeunbinged.com/60 📱 Connect on Facebook and Instagram for daily encouragement ✨ Website: https://lifeunbinged.com 📧 Support: support@lifeunbinged.com What if the reason you’re still struggling with food isn’t because you haven’t found the right diet, but because you’ve been believing the wrong things? For years, I loved God and wanted to take care of my body, yet I still felt completely controlled by sugar cravings, food noise, overeating, and shame. I knew about self-control. I knew my body belonged to God. So why couldn’t I get this under control? Everything began to change when I stopped looking for another diet to rescue me and started inviting God into this part of my life. In this episode, we’re going deeper into five lies that can keep Christian women stuck in the cycle of food obsession and weight loss and replacing each one with biblical truth. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why God cares about your struggle with food, your health, and your peaceWhy another diet may not address what’s really driving your eatingHow food can quietly become our comfort, reward, escape, or refugeWhy “everything in moderation” isn’t necessarily freedom for everyoneHow food boundaries can become guardrails instead of punishmentWhy removing triggering foods can actually quiet food noise instead of making life smallerWhy shame and isolation make the struggle harder and community mattersPractical steps you can take today to begin surrendering your food choices to GodWhy Jesus, not a diet, food plan, or even your boundaries belongs in the highest placeI also share what changed when I began eating three measured meals of real food, removed processed sugar and flour, stopped grazing, and committed to spending time with God every day. The physical transformation was significant, but the transformation I value most happened in my mind: going from feeling chaotic, food-obsessed, ashamed, and mastered by food to experiencing peace, clarity, surrender, and freedom. Food boundaries give us structure, but God gives us strength. Ready for More Support? If you’re tired of knowing what to do but struggling to actually do it, I created the 60 Day Surrender to help women put these principles into practice. It combines clear food boundaries with biblical truth, surrender, accountability, community, and practical tools for learning how to live free from food obsession long term. Learn more at lifeunbinged.com/60. Pray about it and ask God whether this is your next step. Maybe you don’t need another diet. Maybe you need surrender. Make it a great day! I Used to Worry About Missing Wedding Cake

When I first stopped eating processed sugar and flour, my oldest daughter was only 16, and somehow I was already worried about whether I’d be able to eat cake at her future wedding. No engagement. No wedding plans. Yet my mind was already years ahead, wondering how I could possibly celebrate without certain foods. Seven years later, that wedding actually happened. And when it was time to cut the cake, something surprised me: I didn’t even want it. I watched my daughter and her husband cut the cake, and then I went right back to the dance floor. 🩷 That moment showed me how much my definition of food freedom had changed. Freedom wasn’t being able to eat whatever I wanted. For me, freedom was not needing it anymore. ✨ In this episode, you’ll learn: Why we worry about future holidays, vacations, and celebrations when changing our eating habitsThe difference between eating whatever you want and truly being free from foodHow food boundaries can quiet cravings and constant food thoughts over timeWhy you’re imagining future events through the cravings you’re experiencing todayHow to stop trying to solve tomorrow’s food decisions todayWhy the food isn’t what makes a celebration meaningfulWhat it can look like to become fully present in your life instead of being consumed by foodGalatians 5:1 reminds us that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. And sometimes freedom looks different than we expected. The cake wasn’t the celebration. My daughter was. Her marriage was. Our family, the laughter, the dancing, and being fully present for one of the biggest days of her life—that was the celebration. ✨ If you’re afraid that letting go of certain foods will make your life smaller, consider that the opposite might be true. Maybe letting go of what has controlled you will finally give you the freedom to fully live. Make it a great day! Heal Out Loud

In this episode of Living Life Unbinged, I’m sharing a story from a middle school camp that started with something as simple as a wart on the bottom of a girl’s foot. What she expected to be an embarrassing confession quickly became a moment of connection when other girls began admitting they had experienced the exact same thing. It reminded me of something powerful: shame grows in silence, but healing happens out loud. For years, I carried my own struggle with sugar addiction, food obsession, and emotional eating quietly. Eventually, I became willing to name it, share my story, and talk openly about how food had become my comfort, my escape, and even an idol in my life, and how surrendering it to Jesus changed everything. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why we often believe we’re the only ones strugglingHow secrecy and shame can keep us isolatedWhy saying the embarrassing thing out loud can create connectionThe power of hearing someone else say “Me too”Why confession and community are important parts of healingHow sharing your story can give someone else permission to share theirs Make it a great day! For years, I asked God to help me lose weight. But eventually, I realized the number on the scale wasn’t the real issue. Underneath my struggle with food were deeper battles with identity, surrender, and trust. So I stopped asking God to simply change my weight and started praying five different prayers instead.   In this episode, you’ll learn: How to anchor your worth in God’s truth, not the scaleWhy willingness and surrender are essential to food freedomWhat to pray when you believe God can free you but still struggle with doubtWhy avoiding the first compulsive bite can change the battleHow to rely on God’s strength instead of white-knuckling cravingsWhy keeping Jesus at the center matters more than another diet or planHow surrender, food boundaries, and renewing your mind can lead to lasting freedomIf you’re a Christian woman struggling with sugar addiction, emotional eating, food obsession, or sugar cravings, this isn’t about trying harder. Cravings Are Like Seagulls

In this episode, I'm sharing a simple story from a day at the beach that I believe is a good metaphor for cravings. As my family sat down to eat, a group of seagulls became increasingly loud and aggressive, constantly trying to get our food. But when we refused to feed them, something interesting happened: eventually, they quieted down and flew away. Cravings can work the same way. The more we feed them, the louder and more persistent they can become. But when we learn to pause, wait, and let the craving pass instead of immediately giving in, we can discover that the intensity doesn't last forever. If you're struggling with sugar cravings, food obsession, or feeling like you have to satisfy every urge to eat, this episode will encourage you to try something different. The next time a craving feels loud and overwhelming, don't automatically feed it. Give yourself a few minutes. Let the feeling rise, settle, and pass. You may be surprised by how quickly the craving loses its power.  In This Episode: ✨ Why cravings can feel loud, urgent, and impossible to ignore ✨ What seagulls taught me about food cravings ✨ Why giving in can reinforce the cycle of cravings ✨ How to practice pausing instead of immediately responding ✨ A simple 2–3 minute strategy for riding out a craving ✨ Why you don't have to obey every craving you experience Make it a great day!
