No Brain. No Blood. No Organs. The Real Walking Dead: Cotard's Syndrome

Only a few Small and Medium T-shirts left! What if you were completely convinced that you were already dead? In the late 1800s, French neurologist Jules Cotard documented patients who believed they had no organs, no blood, no brain, or even a soul. Some believed they had never existed at all. Others thought they were immortal, eternally damned, or trapped somewhere between life and death. Today, this rare phenomenon is known as Cotard’s syndrome, AKA the “Walking Corpse” or the “Walking Dead” syndrome. In this episode of DGSG, we explore the strange and deeply unsettling history of this condition. We’ll hear about people who refused food because they believed they were dead, patients who believed their bodies had disappeared, and the disturbing religious delusions that accompany the syndrome. We then jump into the modern world of psychiatry and what has been learned about Cotard’s delusion and why some researchers believe these seemingly impossible beliefs might actually be attempts to rationalize profoundly altered experiences of the self and reality. We’ll also explore modern cases, including first-person accounts, and examine modern treatments such as medication and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Her Dream Became Reality: The Aberfan Disaster

Only 13 shirts in stock (S,M,L) when this episode went live! On October 21, 1966, a 111-foot coal-waste spoil tip collapsed on the Welsh village of Aberfan. The slurry engulfed several homes and the Pantglas Junior School, a tragedy that would create a cultural grief lasting decades. Beyond the tragedy, what shocked many was the number of alleged premonitions about the Aberfan disaster before it happened. One came from 10-year-old Eryl Mai Jones, who told her mother a night before the disaster that she had dreamed of the school being destroyed. Several more came forward with their unique premonitions of the Aberfan Disaster, to the point that psychiatrist John Barker opened the British Premonitions Bureau. Fully convinced they could use this information to avert future disasters, he and his team began collecting specific predictions before tragic events occurred. Two people, Kathleen Middleton and Alan Hencher, became the bureau’s “stars” after making astonishing predictions about plane crashes, RFK’s assassination, floods, earthquakes, and disasters involving astronauts. But were all of these legitimate? How much of them were coincidences, results of confirmation bias, or vague guesses? Or is there a hidden truth connected to these premonitions? Some researchers suggest they are very real… but it’s not as paranormal as we might think. A 7-Foot Clown Lured Two Children Into a Windowless Hut: Sam the Sandown Clown

T-shirts (a few S,M,L left) Patreon Deep in the marshlands of the Isle of Wight, a 7-foot creature with a paper-white face, triangular eyes, and a colorful patchwork costume lured two children to his hut in 1973 — and what happened next became one of Britain's most famous cryptid legends. This is the bizarre story of "Sam the Sandown Clown" (aka All Colors Sam). It all started with a 1973 encounter and its obscure 1978 BUFORA write-up. Then it evolved into a wild string of "return" sightings through the 1980s, where Sam allegedly predicted real-world events. And finally, to a 2025 update that reignited the legend online. We trace that sudden shift in folklore, especially after the 2016 Clown Panic, while unpacking the psychology and history behind coulrophobia (the fear of clowns), and explore cryptid theories ranging from interdimensional beings, Isle of Wight Festival drifters, and a Ringo Starr prank gone wrong. They Called Her a ‘Chemical Weapon.’ No One Could Explain It: Gloria Ramirez

A few shirts left! A 31-year-old mother is rushed into Riverside Hospital. The staff is alarmed by unusual smells and an oily sheen found on her body. Within minutes, nurses and doctors collapse to the floor, sending the entire ER into a frenzy. The entire floor is evacuated during one of the strangest and most-disputed medical mysteries of the modern era. This is the unexplained case of Gloria Ramirez, a woman labeled as “the Toxic Lady,” after officials tried to explain what happened in the hospital that night by suggesting that her body was somehow producing a chemical weapon. Other professionals claimed mass hysteria. Yet the family claimed that the hospital was trying to cover up a documented history of toxic gas violations in the hospital. Three delayed autopsies, sexism in healthcare, suspicious violations by the hospital, and conflicting eyewitness accounts created the most complex mystery of the 90s.  Patreon DGSG Instagram  Host:  Austin Lee (Former Host of Lights Out)  Editor:  Kelley Waterfall Artwork:  Kelly Jaye MacCarroll Music:  Matt McBrien And Michael La Bella This channel hosts a documentary series for educational purposes (EDSA). A Dead Man's Prank Sparked a $10 Million Baby-Making Race

A life-changing amount of money was on the line, as a dead man's prank led to a “race” to see who could have the most babies in 10 years. In 1926, eccentric Toronto millionaire Charles Vance Millar left behind a bizarre will. His final clause was the strangest of all: his entire fortune would go to the Toronto woman who gave birth to the most children in the next decade. What started as a joke collapsed into one of the strangest, most controversial sagas of the Great Depression, known across Canada as “The Great Stork Derby.” Many who entered the race were from poor, immigrant, and working-class families. Threats of extortion, kidnapping attempts, personal tragedies, lawsuits, racism, classism, and an invasive media circus followed them around for years. And amidst the chaos, as it turns out, life 100 years ago wasn’t all that different from today: the derby uncovered deep-seated xenophobia, eugenics-driven backlash, religious oppression, and courtroom battles over what legally counted as a child.
