    She Picked the Retreat Center Before She Had a Business: Jackie Wilson

    Jackie Wilson found the place she would host her first yoga retreat three years before she had a yoga business to host it for. She was between London and India, taking a month in Sri Lanka to surf and reset, when she wandered into an Ayurvedic retreat center in the middle of the jungle. No studio, no students, no plan. She stood there and decided that was where she would bring people one day. This January she brings them. Barb Garside is a Broker Associate with Coastal Chatham at eXp Realty Luxury, selling luxury coastal real estate on Cape Cod, and she has known plenty of people who came back to Chatham and had to invent their own reason to stay. Jackie learned to swim at Oyster Pond, taught lessons there, then lifeguarded. Her parents have owned the family home more than 40 years. She left for Fordham, Hong Kong, New York, London. When she finally came home she noticed there was no yoga studio in town, called the Chatham Community Center, and left a voicemail for Sue, her old boss from lifeguard days. Chatham Yoga turns two in September. When the Sri Lanka trip opened for booking, the first people to sign up were a couple who started with her back when a class cost less than a coffee.     He Waited Until His Last Day to Ask How He Got Into Cornell: David Eldredge

    David Eldredge sat on one question through his whole time at Cornell and finally asked it on his last day: how did I get into this school? His advisor told him the truth. Every person on the hotel school admissions committee gets one wild card, one applicant who is in with no questions asked. He was hers. The kid from a Chatham graduating class of 52 who started doing odd jobs at 11, got hired at the Chatham Beach and Tennis Club at the end of the summer of 1978, and stayed five summers, got into the top hotel school in the world on somebody's gut feeling about him. Barb Garside is a Broker Associate with Coastal Chatham at eXp Realty Luxury and sells luxury coastal real estate on Cape Cod, and her own kids worked for David at that same beach club. He came back to run it and stayed 23 years, then left at 59 to open Elwood's Raw Bars with his sister Tanya. He put it in North Chatham, off the beaten track, and let word of mouth carry it. His line on downtown is short: he does not want to be on Main Street, and out where he is, you always get a parking spot.     She Renovated Her House Without Moving a Beam: Leslie Schneeberger, Chatham MA

    Leslie Schneeberger's family walked through the house she wanted and asked what had happened to her. She bought it and never moved a beam. It was post and beam, dark brown, reading like a Vermont cabin, tucked behind the commercial block in downtown Chatham. She measured where every post sat, sized a kitchen cabinet to fit exactly between two of them, and renovated the whole house without changing a single piece of structure. Her daughters have since agreed she made a good decision. Barb Garside sells Cape Cod real estate as a Broker Associate with Coastal Chatham at eXp Luxury, and she runs into the same argument from the buyer's side. Clients ask for the primary suite on the first floor because that is what the next buyer wants. Leslie has watched them fight that layout for months, then admit the second floor is where they actually want to sleep. She also explains tolerance, her word for how much risk a client carries when conservation marks an area do not touch and they want to ask anyway. Barb's daughter worked for Leslie for two years and summed her up as someone who puts a pop of color and a touch of whimsy into everything she designs.
