15: Is Doomscrolling Stealing Your Prayer Life? 5 Tips to Reclaim Your Time for What Restores Your Soul

Do you ever find yourself scrolling through social media for much longer than you intended, only to realize you've lost time you could have spent praying, resting, or doing something that nourishes your soul? In this episode of Spiritual Practices for the Soul, I share five practical ways to create healthier boundaries with social media and reclaim time for what truly restores us. From protecting your early morning hours and setting timers to taking a digital detox, acknowledging anxiety in prayer, and seeking deeper connections with others, these simple steps can help you become more intentional about how you spend your time. I'll also reflect on why we sometimes turn to social media when we're anxious or longing for connection, only to end up feeling more overwhelmed or alone. Rather than approaching this struggle with judgment or shame, we can gently notice what we're seeking and make space for practices that bring us joy, strength, hope, and a deeper awareness of God's presence. “To reclaim some of that time for what really restores your soul.” If you feel that scrolling is taking time away from your spiritual life or the things that bring you peace, I hope this episode encourages you to start small, set a gentle boundary, and make room for what truly matters.   Featured Celtic Psalms Song: Save me, O God (Psalm 69)   Connect with other contemplative souls: Join the Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/26408130042217184   Upcoming Live Workshop: Crafting a Resilient Rhythm for THIS Season of Your Life Create a sustainable spiritual rhythm that meets you where you are. 14: When a Prayer Practice Doesn't Work for You Anymore: How to Reconnect with Your Spiritual Life in This Season

Have you ever found that a prayer practice that once brought you peace and connection with God no longer seems to work? You might feel frustrated, disconnected, or even wonder if God has left you on your own. In this episode of Spiritual Practices for the Soul, I explore why our spiritual practices sometimes stop nourishing us and how changes in our lives, responsibilities, and daily rhythms can affect our prayer life. Drawing from my own experience, I reflect on how we move through different seasons ~ some full of joy and growth, others marked by dryness and difficulty ~ and why we can trust that these seasons will change. Together, we’ll explore gentle questions to help you recognize the season you’re in, discover what might nourish your soul right now, and find small ways to reconnect with God’s presence. You don’t have to force an old routine to work or feel discouraged when your spiritual life changes. Sometimes, the invitation is simply to make room for a new rhythm. “God accompanies us in those dry times, whether we know it or not.” If you’re feeling spiritually disconnected or longing to feel God’s presence again, I hope this episode reminds you to offer yourself grace, trust the season you’re in, and remain open to the restorative practices that may be waiting for you.   Featured Celtic Psalms Song: How Long (Psalm 13) https://www.celticpsalms.com/portfolio/how-long-psalm-13/   Connect with other contemplative souls: Join the Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/26408130042217184   Upcoming Live Workshop: Crafting a Resilient Rhythm for THIS Season of Your Life Create a sustainable spiritual rhythm that meets you where you are. 13: Centering Prayer as a Daily Prayer Practice to Get Grounded When You're Overwhelmed

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed that you struggle to find the words to pray, or even to quiet your mind? In this episode of Spiritual Practices for the Soul, I explore the practice of Centering Prayer, a contemplative way of connecting with God through stillness and silence. Drawing on insights from our time exploring this practice in my membership community, I share how Centering Prayer can help us let go of distracting thoughts, find calm amid the chaos, and become more aware of God’s presence in our everyday lives. Together, we’ll explore how this simple practice works, why returning to a sacred word can help us refocus when our minds wander, and how even a few minutes of prayer can offer restoration and grounding. You don’t need to get it perfect or set aside 20 minutes every day. You can begin with just two or five minutes and discover whether this practice speaks to you. “Centering prayer helps us become grounded in what is most important.” If you’re feeling overwhelmed, spiritually weary, or unsure how to connect with God in this season, I hope this episode offers you a gentle invitation to pause, let go, and return to the divine presence already with you.   Featured Celtic Psalms Song: The God of Jacob (Psalm 46)   Connect with other contemplative souls: Join the Facebook Group   Upcoming Live Workshop: Crafting a Resilient Rhythm for THIS Season of Your Life Create a sustainable spiritual rhythm that meets you where you are. 12: 3 Spiritual Practices to Keep You Grounded in Times of Transition

Are you going through a season of change and finding it difficult to feel grounded? In this episode of Spiritual Practices for the Soul, I share three simple spiritual practices that have helped me stay centered through a season of major transition. These practices have become steady anchors in my life, helping me process what is happening beneath the surface, step away from the clutter of everyday life, and reconnect with joy and a deeper sense of who I am. We’ll explore how ordinary activities can become spiritual practices when we bring our full attention to them and remember that we are accompanied by God’s presence. Whether you’re starting a new job, moving to a new place, adjusting to a new routine, or simply navigating an unfamiliar chapter, these practices can offer moments of perspective, resilience, and grounding. “We remember that we are beloved, that we don’t travel alone into what’s ahead.” Whatever transition you’re facing, I hope this episode reminds you that you don’t have to navigate it alone. God walks with you into every new place, every new season, and every new chapter.   Featured Celtic Psalms Song: Their Delight (Psalm 1)   Connect with other contemplative souls: Join the Facebook Group   Crafting a Resilient Rhythm for YOUR Life in 2026-27 (On-Demand Workshop) Create a sustainable spiritual rhythm that meets you where you are. 11: The Secret to a Consistent Prayer Life (It’s Not What You Think)

Do you struggle to stay consistent in your prayer life? You are not alone. In this episode of Spiritual Practices for the Soul, I explore why creating a consistent prayer life can be so difficult, especially when our schedules, responsibilities, energy, and seasons of life are always changing. Instead of striving for a rigid routine, I share three simple ways to develop a more sustainable rhythm: connecting prayer to something you already do each day, weaving prayer into activities that bring you joy and make you feel alive, and giving yourself permission to be flexible when life doesn’t go according to plan. Most of all, we’ll consider a different understanding of consistency ~ one rooted not in perfection or pressure, but in trusting that God’s presence is always there, even when our own rhythms change. “God is consistent, even when we can’t be consistent.” If you’ve been struggling with an inconsistent prayer life, I hope this episode offers you a little freedom and a lot of grace. You don’t have to get everything right. You can begin again, right where you are, and rest in the God who is always with you.   Featured Celtic Psalms Song: God’s Love Endures Forever (Psalm 136)   Connect with other contemplative souls: Follow on Substack Join the Facebook Group   Crafting a Resilient Rhythm for YOUR Life in 2026-27 (3-Part Workshop) Create a sustainable spiritual rhythm that meets you where you are. 9: Overwhelmed with Caregiving Duties? How Connection Can Enhance Your Spiritual Life

What if some of the responsibilities that feel like burdens could also become opportunities for connection? In this episode of Spiritual Practices for the Soul, I explore connection, the seventh spiritual practice in my framework, and how it brings so many spiritual practices together. I share my own experience of spending hours driving my teenage children to practices and activities, and how something I often experienced as tiring and frustrating began to feel different when I saw those hours as precious opportunities for connection. We’ll reflect on how the ordinary responsibilities of caring for others can become part of our spiritual lives, helping us cultivate gratitude and become more aware of God’s presence in everyday moments. I also explore the importance of the people and communities who bring us back to ourselves and remind us that we don’t have to move through life alone. “It reminds us that we aren’t going through this life on our own, but that we have companions on the journey.” I hope this episode invites you to consider where connection is already present in your life, and how even the most ordinary moments with the people around you can become places of belonging, gratitude, and divine presence.   Featured Celtic Psalms Song: How Good It Is (Psalm 133)   Join my upcoming workshop: Crafting a Resilient Rhythm for YOUR Life in 2026/27 Workshop   Connect with other contemplative souls:  Follow on Substack Join the Facebook Group
