High Standards or Just Difficult? What Changed in Our 50s

Are your standards too high, or have you spent years making yourself easier for everyone else? In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole get honest about raising your standards in midlife, asking for what you want, and getting comfortable with people having an opinion about it. Lisette reflects on spending her 30s in survival mode with three kids, saying yes to everything and staying quiet to keep the peace. Nicole shares how accepting unhealthy relationships in her 20s eventually taught her to set boundaries that protect her time and energy. From friendships and relationships to business, fitness, and how you show up for yourself, this conversation explores what happens when your choices finally reflect your worth. We get into: • The difference between high standards and perfectionism • Asking for what you want without apologizing • Charging what you're worth and delegating to reclaim your time • Why some friendships shift when your lifestyle changes • How sobriety helped Lisette gain clarity and bet on herself • Building confidence through action and following through on your commitments If you've been lowering your standards to avoid judgment or keep everyone comfortable, ask yourself: What is keeping the peace costing you? This week's challenge: Write down one standard you've been quietly lowering. What would it take to raise it back up? DM us at @yourwellnessbesties on Instagram. We want to hear your answer. Why We Stopped Drinking in Our 50s: Sobriety, Anxiety & What Changed

You don’t have to have a drinking problem to realize drinking is a problem for the life you want. In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole get honest about why they stopped drinking in their 50s, what they miss, and what made them decide they didn’t want to go back. For Lisette, it started with a moment at the shore: drinking at 2 p.m. instead of enjoying the beach with her kids. What began as a 30-day break became a lasting decision. She shares her experience with gray area drinking, the awkwardness of going out sober, and how completing 75 Hard strengthened her commitment. Nicole opens up about how having a sober fiancé supported her decision and why alcohol no longer fit her training, nutrition, and health goals. She shares the changes she noticed in her anxiety, mood, and mental clarity, and why keeping that promise to herself matters. Together, they talk about missing the relaxed feeling of a drink, navigating friendships that changed, and why moderation doesn’t work for everyone. They also share what they gained: mornings without hangovers, more energy for workouts, and greater confidence in their choices. If you’ve been thinking about taking a break or questioning whether alcohol still fits your life, this is an honest conversation about what that change can look like. No judgment. Just two women sharing their experiences. This week’s challenge: Start by paying attention. Notice when you want a drink, how much you’re drinking, and how you feel the next day. Track it and see what you learn. We’re not medical professionals. This episode reflects our personal experiences. If you drink heavily or may be dependent on alcohol, talk to a doctor before stopping. Find us on Instagram @yourwellnessbesties and DM us your questions. It's Not Too Late: The Lies About Aging We're Done Believing

Your 20s told you who to be. Your 30s told you who to take care of. Your 40s and 50s? They're telling you to cut your hair, cover your arms, and quietly fade out. We're not doing that. In this episode, Lisette and Nicole take apart the outdated rules women in midlife are handed about what to wear, how to act, and what's "too late" to start. Lisette almost talked herself out of a brand event in NYC, intimidated by fashion creators she'd followed for years, until her 23-year-old daughter told her she belonged in that room. She also shares how, after 15 years at home, she wrote "you're not too old and it's not too late" in her journal again and again until she finally believed it and did something about it. Nicole opens up about holding back from showing up online for years out of fear of judgment, even after more than a decade of inspiring women through fitness and wellness. They also cover imposter syndrome, the fear of what people will say when you reinvent yourself, why our mothers seemed so much older at this age (the Golden Girls were our age!), ageism at work, and why starting over now can actually be easier than it was at 25. If you've been told you're too old, too late, or too much, this is your sign. Unshrink. Take up space. The only permission you need is your own. Follow us on Instagram @yourwellnessbesties. The Mental Health Crisis in Midlife Nobody's Talking About

Ready for an honest conversation about burnout, loneliness, and finding yourself again in midlife? Pull up a chair, because we’re getting real. In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole unpack why so many women feel overwhelmed, invisible, and disconnected from themselves during their 40s and 50s. Between raising children, caring for aging parents, navigating changing relationships, managing careers, and coping with hormonal shifts, women are expected to keep showing up for everyone, even when they’re struggling themselves. Lisette opens up about putting herself last while raising three children and entering perimenopause without realizing what was happening to her body. Nicole shares her experience rebuilding her life after divorce, navigating single motherhood, and discovering strength through bodybuilding. They also discuss the loneliness of midlife, brain fog, depression, burnout, ageism in the workplace, setting boundaries, and their personal experiences with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. They also share how fitness and community helped them reconnect with themselves. If you’ve been questioning who you are beyond being a mother, wife, caregiver, or professional, this conversation will remind you that you’re not alone and that finding yourself again is possible. Because you deserve to feel like yourself again. And it’s never too late to find her. Marriage, Divorce & Finding Love Again in Midlife

Ready for an honest conversation about love, marriage, divorce, and starting over in midlife? Pull up a chair, because we’re getting REAL about relationships. In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole open up about their completely different relationship journeys. Nicole shares what she learned through two divorces and finding love again later in life, while Lisette talks about what it has taken to build a marriage that has lasted nearly 25 years. Nothing is off limits: knowing when it’s time to stay or walk away, rebuilding after divorce, blended families, resentment during the hard seasons of marriage, dating in midlife, and what happens when two people either evolve together or start growing apart. Nicole gets candid about leaving a toxic relationship with two young children, navigating a second marriage, and eventually meeting Billy and finding love again. She also shares what she’s learned about starting over and why no woman should ever believe she’s stuck simply because of her age or circumstances. Lisette shares the other side of the conversation: the seasons when marriage was HARD. She opens up about raising three babies back-to-back, feeling resentful while her husband worked long hours, and why they continued prioritizing their relationship even when life, work, and kids could easily have pulled them apart. They also get into blended families, friendships and relationship boundaries, keeping your marital problems out of the group chat, dating in your 40s and 50s, and whether you can actually rekindle the spark after decades together. Whether you’re happily married, questioning your relationship, divorced, dating again, or simply wondering what love looks like in this chapter of life, this conversation is for you. Because starting over doesn’t mean you failed—and staying together doesn’t mean you got lucky. Both take courage, self-awareness, and knowing what you’re willing to fight for. Your Glow-Up Might Cost You Some Friendships

Ready to find your wellness tribe? Pull up a chair because we're getting real about friendships after 40. In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole dive deep into the reality of midlife friendships, why we all need a wellness bestie, and the exciting announcement of their upcoming Wellness Besties Retreats. They share their vision for creating a community of like minded women who can come together for a few days of wellness, connection, and real conversations about the things that matter most in midlife. This conversation gets honest about how friendships change as you get older. Lisette opens up about moving to New Jersey nine months pregnant, knowing no one, and having to start over. Nicole shares how she still has lifelong friends from nursery school but also experienced friendships fading after divorce and major life changes. They both talk about the loneliness epidemic for women in midlife and how lifestyle changes, sobriety, kids leaving the house, career shifts, and personal growth can all lead to friendships naturally fading without any big blowout. You'll hear about the red flags they look for now when making new friends. They discuss why surrounding yourself with people who match your energy is non negotiable and how friendships based around drinking often fade when one person decides to get sober. They also talk about the importance of being a girl's girl, showing up for your friends during hard times. They break down the difference between quality and quantity friendships and why having a handful of real friends who support you, inspire you, and hold you accountable is worth more than a room full of fake ones. If you're looking for like minded women, feeling isolated in your wellness journey, or wondering where to find your wellness bestie, this episode gives you practical advice on where to start. From the gym and book clubs to networking events, masterminds, and volunteering, they share actionable ways to put yourself out there and find your tribe. Plus, they reveal details about their upcoming Wellness Besties Retreats starting locally in New Jersey this fall and expanding to destination retreats in 2027. Stop Waiting to Feel Ready: How We Reinvented Ourselves After 40

Nicole hit rock bottom in her 20s. Loss, divorce, depression, partying to escape her reality. Lisette never hit rock bottom. She just disappeared, 15 years as a stay-at-home mom, until the day her daughter left for college and she realized she'd never done a single thing just for herself. Two different paths. Same glow up. In this episode of Your Wellness Besties, Lisette and Nicole open up about what it really takes to reinvent yourself in your 40s and 50s. Lisette shares a difficult weekend helping a family member through a mental health crisis, which leads into a powerful conversation about how our choices affect us long term and the importance of making changes before it's too late. She reflects on the moment at 49 when she looked in the mirror, 20 pounds overweight, realizing she'd spent 15 years putting everyone else first, all while unknowingly going through perimenopause. Nicole gets real about her messy 20s, marked by loss, divorce, and depression, and how she started her physical transformation at 30 through bodybuilding. But she reveals that looking good on the outside didn't mean she was mentally healthy. It wasn't until she met her fiancé Billy at 40 that she started doing the real work on her mindset. You'll hear about the fear of failure and the public embarrassment both hosts faced when things didn't work out. Lisette talks about starting an online fashion boutique at 48, running it for two years, then having to shut it down and pivot. Nicole discusses the criticism she faced when she started showing up online, competing, and building her brand, including people unfollowing her the moment she started becoming successful and happy. They dig into imposter syndrome, building confidence through action, and why surrounding yourself with the right people is non-negotiable. Nicole explains how confidence comes from doing the reps and showing up scared. Lisette shares why the way you present yourself is a form of self-respect. They talk about why you're never too old to start over, how to make a list and prioritize what actually matters, and why starting small with one habit at a time is the key to not getting overwhelmed. If you're ready to start over, reinvent yourself, or finally prioritize your own happiness and health in midlife, this episode will give you the encouragement and roadmap you need. Zero filter.
