Bipolar Clarity: Life After a Bipolar Diagnosis

René

Bipolar Clarity is a calm, practical guide to living with bipolar disorder — made for people who are newly diagnosed, and for the first years after a bipolar diagnosis, when everything feels loud and nobody hands you a manual. Each short episode (15–20 minutes) takes one real situation and gives you language, steps, and questions you can actually use: understanding bipolar 1 and bipolar 2, telling hypomania from mania, recognizing early warning signs, bipolar depression and mixed episodes, sleep and routine, preparing medication conversations with your prescriber, work, relationships, and how to talk to the people who love you. The words come from lived experience: every episode is written by René, who has lived with bipolar disorder for more than 20 years — through decades of misdiagnosis, a late diagnosis, and the slow, unglamorous work of becoming stable. Clara, the presenter, is an AI host; the face is synthetic, the story is real. No hype and no miracle cures. Bipolar disorder is managed, not cured — and a good life is genuinely possible. This podcast is education, not therapy or medical advice; please work with your own clinicians. New episodes weekly. Every episode also exists as a video with subtitles in nine languages at bipolarclarity.com, along with free printable tools and a calm weekly newsletter. If you or someone you love was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder, start with the episode "New Diagnosis? Start Here: 3 Steps to Stabilize Your Mood." You’re in the right place.

Bipolar Disorder or Something Else? Thyroid, Trauma, ADHD

Why does a bipolar assessment ask about thyroid, trauma, ADHD, sleep or alcohol? It isn't because they doubt you. Leaving a Bipolar Partner: Will Life Really Get Better?

Leaving a bipolar partner: will life really get better? This video won't tell you to leave or to stay. That decision is yours. What it gives you: a clean way to decide, and an honest picture of what comes after, whichever way you choose. If you've started picturing a calmer life and feel like a traitor for it, you're not alone. Here's what almost no one warns you about: the grief of losing someone who is still alive (psychologists call it ambiguous loss), relief and heartbreak arriving in the same hour, and the day you unexpectedly miss being needed. The core tool: decide by evidence, not by hope. The hope list is written at night, about who they were and who they could be. The evidence list is written in daylight, about what is true right now: is the illness treated, owned, and repaired? Plus why chronic stress airbrushes your memories, the difference between leaving an illness and leaving a refusal to face it, and why exhaustion is legitimate even when treatment is working. If you are being hurt, controlled or threatened, this isn't a weighing exercise: your safety comes first. And if you fear they might harm themselves if you go, you are not responsible for keeping another adult alive by staying. That is what crisis lines and professionals are for. ▸ In this video: • Grieving someone who is still alive • Why grief and relief arrive together • Decide by evidence, not by hope: treated, owned, repaired • Why your memory edits out the hard parts • Leaving an illness vs. leaving a refusal • If you're not safe, or afraid they'll harm themselves • The thing you'll miss that you won't expect to ☎️ Need support now? Catch a Bipolar Relapse Early: Your One-Page Plan

A bipolar relapse rarely kicks the door in. It knocks first. How to build a one-page early-warning plan, made in calm, that does its best work on your worst days. Your own signs, a second pair of eyes, and a response decided in advance. Before a full episode, most people have a prodrome: early, personal warning signs that show up days or even weeks ahead. In a well-known British study, people who were taught to spot their own early symptoms and act on them fast delayed their next manic episode. This video turns that into one page in three parts: your signs (they have to be yours, for both the "up" and the "down"), outside eyes (the person who notices your tells before you do), and a response decided now, with a name and a number on it. Plus the honest part: the evidence is strongest for catching mania early, thinner for depression, and the whole thing only works if it's built while you're well and shared before you need it. This sits on top of your medication, not in place of it. ▸ In this video: • What a prodrome is, and the study behind early-warning plans • Part one: your own early signs, up and down • What a real list looks like • Part two: borrow outside eyes • Part three: decide the response now • Where this helps most, and where it helps less 📄 Free one-page Early-Warning Grid from this video (PDF): https://bipolarclarity.com/get/early-warning-grid.pdf ☎️ Need support now? Manic and Depressed at the Same Time? Mixed Features

Hopeless while your thoughts race. This lesson describes low states in bipolar disorder, in body, thinking, sleep and daily life, and what changes when activation runs inside the distress. That combination deserves prompt attention, and you don't need a label before asking for help. You record up to six changes as low, activated, both or unsure, and write one message for your care team. This inventory can't diagnose you or tell you whether you're safe. If you're having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, contact a professional or an urgent service now rather than finishing the page. ⚠️ This Program does not recommend a medicine, compare doses, select a treatment, or tell you to start, stop, restart, taper, change or combine anything. Breakthrough or Hypomania? How to Tell the Difference

Breakthrough or hypomania? After a long low, feeling amazing is the cruelest question in bipolar disorder: is this recovery, or the start of an episode? How to tell genuine happiness from early hypomania, and how to keep the good without sliding into chaos. Hypomania rarely arrives looking scary. It arrives feeling like the answer to everything: the meds finally working, therapy finally clicking. This video names three deceptive green lights (the sleep miracle, the social magnet, the productivity surge) and seven subtle yellow flags, from sensory brightness and "idea popcorn" to the irritability gap and the body hum. Then three checks to tell a steady lift from a ramp, and the one question that settles it every time: are you sleeping? You'll leave with three speed bumps you can install today (the 24-hour pause, a trusted validator, a calmer sensory diet), a reframe for the fear of slowing down, and a two-minute homework: write down what "normal" looks like for you, so you can tell when you're speeding. ▸ In this video: • Why hypomania is so hard to catch • Happiness vs hypomania: one word, sustainability • Three deceptive green lights • Seven subtle yellow flags • Duration, impact and the ultimate tie-breaker • Three speed bumps to keep the good • Your baseline homework ☎️ Need support now? Carrie Fisher and Bipolar Disorder: 5 Lessons From Her

She called her two moods Roy and Pam. Carrie Fisher lived with bipolar disorder in public, long before it was common to say it out loud, and her story teaches five things most textbook explanations leave out. In this video: • Why a diagnosis can take years, especially when substances blur the picture • How naming your moods helps you see a pattern early • What happens when treatment slips, and why changes go through your prescriber • Community and humor as tools, not distractions • What research says about celebrity disclosure, and its limits This is an educational story, not medical advice. Hypomania Signs Others Often Notice Before You Do

From outside: less sleep, faster talk, a full outbox, yes to everything. Neither view is the whole truth; the gap between them is the useful part. This lesson covers six areas (sleep and energy, pace, plans, messages, risk and judgment, and what it cost), explains why mania and hypomania differ by severity and impact, not energy alone, and shows how to ask someone what they noticed without asking them to diagnose you. It is not a diagnostic test. Rising energy doesn't protect against despair. Bipolar 1 vs Bipolar 2: What the Number Really Means

Bipolar 1 versus bipolar 2: the number isn't a severity score. It tells you which episodes are in your history. It isn't, and bipolar 2 is not a milder bipolar 1. This lesson starts where clinicians start, with episode history, then explains mania and hypomania, mixed features, rapid cycling, and why two records can word the same history differently. It also tells why René's record said depression for about 25 years. A label doesn't measure how hard your life is.
