Nobody's having lunch with Mr. Rolex

Kathleen and Adam revisit memories of their favorite manufacture visits (hint: all of them), from Audemars Piguet to Casio to independent watchmakers' ateliers. Contrary to the popular wisdom that you should never see how the sausage is made, a manufacture visit can bring a real, personal connection to a watch, though some might see it simply as an object. They discuss how scale and workflow differ from brand to brand and country to country. From a floor full of watchmakers assembling Royal Oaks, to an automated assembly line, to a centuries-old restoration workshop, to a clock tower that inspired a watch movement, Kathleen and Adam compare the wildly different ways brands build, finish, and protect their craft.  Each brand has its own distinct imprint, but the common thread is the people, their expertise, and the pride they bring to the work. In our modern world, surrounded by time, watches aren't necessary—or are they? Learn more at redbargroup.com.

Happy Brew-versary: Watches, fairs and friendship

Kathleen talks with longtime friend Ed Brill and Brew Watch Co. founder Jonathan Ferrer to trace their intersecting stories of collecting, independent watchmaking, and friendship as they  near the twelfth anniversary of the first Brew watch. They look back on the RedBar meetups that helped shape Jonathan's path to founding Brew, Ed's journey from casual watch buyer to committed collector to unofficial Brew brand ambassador, and the circumstances that connect the three of them, exploring why distinctive design, personal stories, and genuine hospitality matter so much in the world of independent watches. They also talk about the expanding landscape of watch fairs and collector-driven events, and why these gatherings continue to grow. Learn more at redbargroup.com.

Are we part of the problem?

In our premiere episode, Adam and Kathleen explore the phenomenon of hype culture as it insinuates itself into the watch industry. Recapping and analyzing recent launches, looking at the role of social media, and floating potential solutions to manage hype responsibly (hello, Petty Hater Division!). Plus, examining how scarcity, influencer marketing, and secondary markets affect consumers' behavior and brands' reputations (not to mention push us toward the coming apocalypse).  Check out our links: http://instagram.com/redbarcrew https://www.youtube.com/@redbargroup  https://www.redbargroup.com
