Narrated by Elle Fanning, One Click is a limited documentary podcast series from C13Originals, in association with Vespucci, that explores how a single click on the internet can change your life forever. Season 1 tells the story of DNP (2,4-dinitrophenol), an explosive chemical originally used in WWI-era munitions factories that is now being sold on the internet as a diet pill leaving hundreds dead in its wake. This is a story about the risks of buying unknown substances on the internet -- where the spread of information transcends borders -- and how toxic beauty standards and body image issues have fueled a demand for a pill that can kill you. Together, actress Elle Fanning and journalist Jessica Wapner trace the history of DNP and reckon with the question of why. Why, despite the perils, have so many turned to DNP and what does it say about the health of our society?

Deserves More Hype

An investigative podcast exploring the use of a toxic substance to lose weight. Combines history, modern science, and human narratives to craft a compelling statement on human bodies and government oversight.

WOW

I had never heard of DNP and the history and current issues are such a wild ride. Well done investigative podcast.

I have binged this podcast but I’m worried about sharing it

This story is amazing and terrifying at the same time. I enjoy podcasts and like to talk about them. This one feels dangerous to discuss. From people using off market medications for Covid, and friends recovering from eating disorders, I’m conflicted. I want them to hear this story, but I don’t want them to know about it in case they are tempted. This is the first time I’ve run into this situation. Still a few episodes left, and hopefully it’s not available anymore at the end. If so, will point to it. If not, I would like updates on the FDA regulations on this before I can share this podcast.
