Episode 118: Biopics - Podioslave Goes Hollywood! (Nas, Green Day, Alice In Chains, and more)

In our 118th episode, we discuss a different kind of nerdery - movies! We toss out different artists or bands that we want to see Hollywood give the biopic treatment. Would you want a cinematic story about Nas’ come up? Or maybe one set around Layne Staley and the Seattle grunge scene? We hit on those and more! Have a band or artist you’d like to see a feature film made about? Hit us up!

We open this episode with a small setlist: a reflection on last week’s conversation with Jonah Matranga, the prospect of new Slipknot on the way, and a reaction to Rolling Stone’s Top 200 Hip Hop albums list.

Episode 117: A Conversation with Jonah Matranga of Far/onelinedrawing

Episode 117: A Conversation with Jonah Matranga of Far/onelinedrawing

In our 117th episode, we’re joined by the one and only Jonah Matranga! Jonah is the vocal and guitar legend behind Far, onelinedrawing, Gratitude, New End Original, and many others. We cover damn near everything in this conversation: Jonah’s Boston roots and his early intro to music, moving to Cali and the 90s Sacramento scene, Far’s legacy and their impact on music, the Gratitude album, his songwriting approach, collaborating with the likes of Lupe Fiasco/Mike Shinoda/Taproot, and deep dive into his new onelinedrawing record “Tenderwild” dropping June 24, 2022. Jonah could be at the centerpiece of the Podioslave world and we’re here for it. This is a can’t miss conversation.

We also touch on mental health issues and artists we’ve lost to suicide fairly early in the episode. If you or a loved one is experiencing thoughts of suicide - don’t hesitate to call below:

    National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 800-273-8255

Opening transition music: onelinedrawing - “Tenderwild”

Fade out music: onelinedrawing - “This is Water”

Both songs are from the forthcoming album “Tenderwild” on Iodine Recordings.

Episode 116: 20 Year Album Anniversaries (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, and Box Car Racer)

In our 116th episode, we dig into 3 classic albums that turn 20 years old this year. Time travel back to 2002 with us. An era before streaming and a time when CDs still dominated. It was a massive year for music, with a lot of commercial pressure on some big names. We give Red Hot Chili Pepper’s ‘By the Way,’ Eminem’s ‘The Eminem Show,’ and Box Car Racer’s ‘S/T’ the Podioslave treatment this week. Talk about 3 albums that run the gamut sonically, lyrically, and kings of their respective genres.
