Real journalism

It’s topics are controversial, its style understated, undramatic, quick to draw distinctions in the interest of precision and accuracy. The guests have viewpoints, but the editorial folks appear to avoid professional spokespersons, or table pounders, and the interviewers seem to be quick to call out overstatement and hyperbole. It’s consistently interesting and just about the opposite of hype. The producers have every reason to be proud.

Pass the Salt Please

Quillette has carved out an interesting space for itself, in that it claims to eschew partisanship in favor of an evidence-based approach. In reality, that's just about impossible to do all the time, so the podcast (and website as a whole) is absolutely worth listening to and reading, but with a large grain of salt. Sometimes I'm in agreement with its critique of the political correctness of the left, which has become delusionally focused on intersectionality. On the other hand, people like Jordan Peterson are, to me, just irredeemably offensive and sexist. So it's a mixed bag. That's a good thing, as long as you keep yur critical thinking skills on all the time. Which we should do anyway.

Excellent podcast, small problem...

During Toby Young’s otherwise great podcast with Prof. Bruce Gilley, his heavy breathing was very distracting.
