    MERCE: Make It Good to Be Alive

    This episode is dedicated in loving memory to Richard “Dixpop” Nichols   Singer, songwriter, and producer MERCE joins Jeremiah for an intimate conversation about music, love, loss, and finding the road back to feeling alive.   As a founding member of the Jazzyfatnastees, Mercedes “MERCE” Martinez helped shape the emerging neo-soul movement, contributing to Philadelphia’s fertile musical landscape and leaving an indelible mark on the city by founding Black Lily: A Women in Music Series. Initially conceived as a weekly live-music showcase in Philadelphia, the series became a pivotal launchpad and vibrant community space for a remarkable wave of neo-soul, neo-funk, and organic hip-hop artists.     DIPSEA FLOWER Taking The Road Less Traveled

    For Dipsea Flower, the road less traveled brought four musicians together—and turned them into a band.   Born at Berklee College of Music and forged on the road, Dipsea Flower comprises Ari Rosenberg, Trevor Hurvitz, Andy Baker, and Spencer Arjang—four musicians whose friendship is inseparable from the music they create.   The band joins Jeremiah to discuss the moments that first called each of them to music, how Dipsea Flower came together, and the summer spent crisscrossing the country in a Honda Pilot, a journey that transformed four musicians into a genuine band.   They also explore creativity, finding inspiration by actually living life and getting out of your own head, and by explaining why Dipsea Flower isn't interested in making music simply to create a product. She has already performed alongside Wynton Marsalis, Chris Botti, Michael Feinstein, Benny Green, and other giants of the genre.   Joining Jeremiah from Scarborough, England, Veronica discusses her remarkable musical upbringing, life on the road, and why she considers jazz “American classical music.” She shares how classical music, opera, rock, heavy metal, bebop, and swing have influenced her artistry—and why she believes,  “We are as good as what we expose ourselves to.”   The conversation also explores the pandemic’s devastating impact on jazz clubs and live performance, the relationship between music and emotion, and Veronica’s belief that the great venues where musicians perform can become almost sacred spaces.   In one of the episode’s most personal moments, Veronica remembers her father, the legendary jazz pianist Hod O’Brien, who died in 2016.     What do you do when love is no longer enough—and holding on costs you more than just letting go?   New York singer-songwriter ROREY joins The Jeremiah Show for a deeply personal conversation about heartbreak, self-respect, bipolar disorder, and the music that emerged from one of the most difficult relationships of her life.   Her new album, I Get It Now, available August 14, chronicles the slow disillusionment of loving someone deeply while realizing the relationship cannot survive. ROREY opens up about carrying a relationship long after she knew she should put it down, romanticizing someone's absence, learning to choose herself, and finally accepting that some people change your life without remaining in it.   ROREY also discusses how songwriting has helped her navigate bipolar disorder and intense emotional states. For her, creating music isn't simply an artistic exercise—it's a form of survival. "I write for myself," she explains. "In the moment, it's a form of therapy."   We go inside the stories behind "Dying Fire," "I'm Sure," "Temporary Tragedy," "Quiet Love," and her new single "Binary Thinking," a song inspired by the unanswered questions left behind when someone disappears from your life without explanation.   ROREY also takes us behind the visual world surrounding her music, including the remarkable one-take video for "Hurts Me to Hate You," created with her mother, and her noir-inspired video for "Binary Thinking."   Ultimately, I Get It Now isn't a record about having all the answers.
