Unfortunately, I can no longer listen to this podcast. I am a strong Christian and very conservative. I also love fashion and beauty, and I was so excited when this podcast began especially being a fan of The Conservateur.
I have struggled, though, with an eating disorder since I was 6 years old and have gone through years of Christian-based eating disorder therapy. Thankfully, I no longer struggle with my eating disorder on a daily basis.
However, this podcast has made several statements that blatantly encourages the audience to skip dinner and/or practice intermittent fasting. As much as I wish I could practice these habits again, that would mean relapsing and going down a path I’ve spent years recovering from. The years I spent skipping dinner and intermittent fasting harmed myself which made me strongly dislike myself and my surroundings. I could never, ever recommend those practices to another person.
Today my discipline with food looks like providing my body with the daily nutrients it needs, intuitively eating, and moving as an act of worship. While exercise is good for me physically, I feel so close to God on walks, hikes, and a fun workout class.
Even though I am recovered from my eating disorder, the thoughts sometimes intrusively enter my mind. I do what I can to protect my mind and heart from making those intrusive thoughts louder. Sadly, that means no longer listening to this podcast.
I truly believe Jayme and Camryn mean the absolute best for the audience. They are well spoken about so many topics and seem to be wonderful women of faith! And, they have even said multiple times that they do not support or encourage eating disorders. (Side Note - if you have to say that disclaimer, then you’re probably already using ED language.)
If you struggle with an eating disorder or are in active recovery, please be aware of their language. For myself, I can no longer listen to this podcast due to the encouragement for certain eating practices that harmed myself and also harm others.
I wish Sincerely American the best on their podcasting journey!
