The civics lessons you didn't learn in school (or on Twitter)

This show provides so many examples of how (and why, if you're just coming around) to get involved with civics at the ground level. A must-listen for the folks who are angry but don't know what to do.
Can’t believe I’m late to the party

As a political science professor, I love this podcast so much! I wish I would’ve discovered this in 2020, but I’m glad to have found it. This is a great pod that covers important issues everyone can understand.
Thanks

So glad that this show exists. I’ve been following LJoy since the TWIB days and I was excited when she stared Sunday Civics.
I APPRECIATE SUNDAY CIVICS✔️

“When the student is ready; the teacher WILL SHOW UP.” As a retired educator; substitution allows me to share needed information w/today’s youth. Therefore, I find this podcast MOST beneficial. I could use a little less of the levity; nevertheless, I appreciate all the the dedicated preparation and guests that the team brings to its audience. I plan to get a mug and become a patron. Thank you✨💫
Sunday Civics is Awesome

I love this podcast - it helps provide concrete actions to take, and the conversations are refreshing and informative. L Joy was one of my favorite cohosts on Blacking It Up, and I am so excited to be able to listen to her and her views again.
Excellent!

I discovered this podcast from a clip featured on The Best of the Left. I receive a lot of calls to action email but often don’t have time to fully research an issue, and I’ve found this really helpful to become informed as well as knowing exactly how I can use that information to effect change. So glad I found you!
A MUST-HEAR Podcast for Everyone!!!!

2016 proved how much folks are really unaware of Civics and Politics both on the Federal and Local/Regional level, and L. Joy Williams, along with Miss June, break it down with so much flair and instruction that for those who are turned off from reading a textbook should listen to this. PoC and other marginalized groups CAN get engaged with our Voices & Votes, and Some Of Us CAN choose to Serve to fulfill the demands of the Marchers and Protesters. Keep up the Great Wisdom, Ladies
Must-Listen for White Allies, Activists and Organizers
10/24/2017
I've been listening to TWiB for a couple years now so I already knew L Joy a little bit through that and always enjoyed when she dropped in on the show, so naturally I was thrilled to hear about this podcast. Just checked out a couple episodes and I can tell already that this one will be on my short-list out of the numerous awesome podcasts out there. This podcast really is perfect for 2017. I know alot of fellow white people who are becoming more aware of the problem of Racism in the US due to Charlottesville, Ferguson, Trayvon, etc., and are looking for ways to be better anti-racist allies. There are several great podcasts out there for doing work on ourselves and our biases and understanding systemic oppression. TWiB, The Interracial Jawn with Leslie Mac, TheBlackGuyWhotips, etc. There are countless ways we white people can listen absorb and learn to be better nowadays while still enjoying tons of laughs. But what makes Sunday Civics special is that it focusses the discussions through a lens of organization and activism. So many of us have been recently prompted to organizing and activism for the first time in our lives, and SundayCivics appears to be a really great resource to help guide us by letting us follow the lead of the Black Women who were just about the only group that got the 2016 election right, and who have been doing this work forever. I plan to encourage everyone I know who is currently working in Indivisible, OfA, PeoplePower etc., to check out this podcast regularly. It could be especially helpful for us to keep race as a central point of our perspectives in our work and make sure that we are always considering how the things we do effect those who aren't White/Cis/Het/Men. Really enjoying the show thus far, keep up the great work. I have a longer question for L Joy that I will add below (based on one of her FB vids, I think) if it's too much of a tangent or for whatever other reason isn't appropriate to answer on air (or even answer at all) no worries. Though I think it's relevant to the podcast in general. Cheers and thank you for the knowledge.you all are sharing. --John **Question for L Joy** You did a FB video a few months ago where you mentioned the need to focus on Voter Suppression and specifically the need for the Dem Party (which I support fully) to expand the base by increasing our efforts at registering more Black Women, which I think is a great idea. You said something like "for every 1 black woman voter registered there are 3 unregistered." When I paraphrased this on a blog dicussing the direction of the Dem Party and more generally the "Left" someone countered that Black Women were already voting at very high %'s compared to other demographics and that he was skeptical of how much more realistic gains could be expected from this strategy. I was just curious if you have gotten this type of pushback before and if so, do you have a good response or clarification or a link that might be helpful. Note: it's totally possible that I messed up what you were trying to say so it could have been user error on my part.
#SUNDAYCIVICS... Informative and Needed.
10/24/2017
Just became aware of #SUNDAYCIVICS podcast and I really enjoy the show. Because civics is rarely taught in our schools today, this show is also needed and fills a void. Love the interaction between L. Joy, Lurie and June. And speaking of June... let me also say that I very much enjoy her humor and I don't feel that she shhould "dial it back, a bit". Because this podcast touches some heavy topics, June's comedy/levity adds a certain balance to the show. Dare I say, that even within the "outbursts", there's a level of depth seriousness (and insightful rhetoric) within her "silliness" provided by June, IJS. Excellent show ladies! #SUNDAYCIVICS #DoYouJune
