Who gets to compete? Since the beginning of women’s sports, there has been a struggle over who qualifies for the women’s category. Tested follows the unfolding story of elite female runners who have been told they can no longer race as women, because of their biology. As the Olympics approach, they face hard choices: take drugs to lower their natural testosterone levels, give up their sport entirely, or fight. To understand how we got here, Host Rose Eveleth (they/them) traces the surprising, 100-year history of sex testing.

Great reporting
Feb 6
Fantastic story, told spectacularly. I highly recommend it to everyone. My book club is listening to it this month for our “book”!
Topic that needs more exposure
Feb 5
This topic needs more press. Lots of history, interviews and individual stories that help give perspective to the topic. Frankly, It’s unbelievable that track and field, among other sports, has rules that exclude certain people from competing unless they change their natural biology. Everyone should have an opportunity to compete without being required to have surgeries or take hormone suppressing drugs.
Great podcast!

This podcast is so good! Great storytelling. Sharing stories that haven’t been told/shared widely. Used sport to remind us to think outside of the binary. Appreciated the book recommendations shared throughout.
It’s missing interviews with female athletes that support the policy
12/18/2024
What’s their point of view? It appears to try to pin it out on out of touch men, but I’m sure there’s plenty of women athletes that support the policy and set in motion the tests.
