ADHD and Hormones with Dr. Sandra Kooij

ADHD and Hormones with Dr. Sandra Kooij

On this week’s episode (by popular demand!) is Dr. Sandra Kooij, a Dutch psychiatrist researching the relationship between hormones and ADHD. Dr. Kooij’s October webinar with ADHD Europe on the topic did not disappoint, and we talk about her life’s work in this can’t-miss episode.

From what she calls “danger week” (the week before your period) to post-partum and (peri)menopause, Dr. Kooij totally gets it, and hearing her talk about her research is fascinating.

Due to Winter Storm Uri, I was unable to put out a new episode this week. Instead, I dug deep into the archives and found my very first episode of the Adulting With ADHD podcast, in which I tell my story of being diagnosed in my mid-30s.

A new fan

I recently discovered this podcast while struggling through pregnancy, and trying to cope with generally feeling overwhelmed and anxious of how I was going to make it through 5 more months of pregnancy. Listened to your episode on pregnancy and ADHD and I felt so heard. Just started crying because Sarah and and her guest Patricia (whom I will also go check out now) were acknowledging all the challenges of pregnancy (and overall big hormonal changes that women in particular experience) that are so rarely spoken of by other women, at least publicly. Feeling a little lighter and much less lonely. Definitely excited to check out the rest of the episodes.

So helpful

Thank you for your hard work and insight on ADHD. I’ve just recently been diagnosed but I feel so lost. You’re post cast has been so helpful. I look forward to the new episodes.

A Genuine Gal Who is Transparent Always!

That may not seem like that big of a deal, but to me it is! Eight or nine months ago, I added a whole bunch of ADHD for women podcasts. Sarah is the only one that I’ve listened to routinely that offers practical advice, is realistic, keeps the episodes short, and seems to truly empathize! She bares her soul but doesn’t whine. She talks about issues and is practical about solutions. She’s humble and makes me feel like I’m sharing a cup of coffee with her and we are talking about similar experiences. Thank you, Sarah for making this podcast. You’re one tough cookie and a woman I’m proud to listen to!
