Shockingly boring and unintelligent. As a big fan of criterion i was looking forward to listening to this and hearing some interesting takes on great films. But the hosts sound extremely bored and present very uninspired, uninteresting, and predictable takes on movies that deserve much more. Listened to the last temptation of Christ episode, it is essentially a male bible study unfairly criticizing a truly brilliant work of art. Not in an interesting way either. I was initially interested in hearing why they felt it was a bad film but they didn’t present any critique with actual substance. They failed to explore in depth why they felt the film doesn’t work, and instead are happy with different variations of, “it just doesn’t really work for me.” Seemingly counting down the minutes. Dismissing the movie based on personal theological reasons! They totally disregarded the book(merely mentioning its existence) and failed to give any concrete analysis of the film. They honestly sound like bored undergrad film students grasping at straws to find something interesting to say during class discussion. If you’re going to be boring at least be intelligent! At least read one in depth review before you make a podcast dragging a critically acclaimed film through the mud. Jesus!! No evidence of research whatsoever. Mind blowing!
Criterion Corner and blank check is way more interesting. I would definitely recommend those over this mindless drivel.
