So many events are planned to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Southwest Detroit. One of the events taking place this weekend is Fiesta Detroit. Co-founder and Director of We Are Culture Creators Michael Reyes joins "The Metro" to talk about the music, food and more people will experience. Also, Assistant Professor of History at Wayne State University Reyna Esquivel-King joins the show to share a bit of Cinco De Mayo history.

Today on "The Metro," Dreamz Two Reality Basketball owner and founder Roy Jackson joins the show to talk about the recruiting platform for high school athletes and the inaugural All-American basketball game taking place this Saturday. Also on the show, Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University Hannah Burrack explains an insect phenomenon expected to emerge across Illinois, Missouri and parts of Michigan this spring.

Detroit’s new Poet Laureate jessica Care moore is a lifelong Detroiter and award-winning poet. She joins the show to discuss how she’s approaching the position. Jeff Newsom, curator at Next Step Studio & Gallery in Ferndale, also joins the show to discuss the gallery's upcoming exhibition "FROCK" that will serve as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Ruth Ellis Center.

TechTown Assistant Vice President for Economic Development and Chief Program Officer Christianne Malone joins "The Metro" to talk more about the Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest, awarding $100,000 to help a new business open in the city. The winner will be selected by public votes and judges on May 9. Michigan Education Trust Executive Director Diane Brewer also joins the show to discuss how the program can help set aside money for education.

Today on "The Metro," we're joined by co-founder of Black Tech Saturdays Johnnie Turnage. The events are bringing individuals interested in tech within the Black community together, helping them enter and succeed in the expanding field. Also on the show, Detroit Free Press Sports Columnist Shawn Windsor joins to talk about the NFL Draft and and the Lions' selections.

Tom Perkins of BridgeDetroit joins the show to talk about new archaeological findings in Detroit that could help uncover a piece of Civil War history. Also on the show, metro Detroit's Collision Six was selected as the official house band for the NFL Draft in Detroit. Band leader Matt Rappaport joins the show to discuss the experience.
